Psalmus 98

Exalt ye the Lord * our God, and worship him upon his holy mountain.

The Lord hath reigned, let the people be angry: * he that sitteth on the cherubims: let the earth be moved.

2. Dóminus in Sion magnus: * et excélsus super omnes pópulos.

The Lord is great in Sion, * and high above all people.

3. Confiteántur nómini tuo magno: quóniam terríbile, et sanctum est: * et honor regis judícium díligit.

Let them give praise to thy great name: for it is terrible and holy: * and the king’s honour loveth judgment.

4. Tu parásti directiónes: * judícium et justítiam in Jacob tu fecísti.

Thou hast prepared directions: * thou hast done judgment and justice in Jacob.

5. Exaltáte Dóminum Deum nostrum, et adoráte scabéllum pedum ejus: * quóniam sanctum est.

Exalt ye the Lord our God, and adore his footstool, * for it is holy.

6. Móyses et Aaron in sacerdótibus ejus: * et Sámuel inter eos, qui ínvocant nomen ejus:

Moses and Aaron among his priests: * and Samuel among them that call upon his name.

7. Invocábant Dóminum, et ipse exaudiébat eos: * in colúmna nubis loquebátur ad eos.

They called upon the Lord, and he heard them: * he spoke to them in the pillar of the cloud.

8. Custodiébant testimónia ejus: * et præcéptum quod dedit illis.

They kept his testimonies, * and the commandment which he gave them.

9. Dómine, Deus noster, tu exaudiébas eos: * Deus, tu propítius fuísti eis, et ulcíscens in omnes adinventiónes eórum.

Thou didst hear them, O Lord our God: * thou wast a merciful God to them, and taking vengeance on all their inventions.

10. Exaltáte Dóminum Deum nostrum, et adoráte in monte sancto ejus: * quóniam sanctus Dóminus Deus noster.

Exalt ye the Lord our God, and adore at his holy mountain: * for the Lord our God is holy.

11. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

12. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalmus 142

Deliver me from my enemies, * O Lord, to thee have I fled.

Hear, O Lord, my prayer: give ear to my supplication in thy truth: * hear me in thy justice.

2. Et non intres in judícium cum servo tuo: * quia non justificábitur in conspéctu tuo omnis vivens.

And enter not into judgment with thy servant: * for in thy sight no man living shall be justified.

3. Quia persecútus est inimícus ánimam meam: * humiliávit in terra vitam meam.

For the enemy hath persecuted my soul: * he hath brought down my life to the earth.

4. Collocávit me in obscúris sicut mórtuos sǽculi: † et anxiátus est super me spíritus meus, * in me turbátum est cor meum.

He hath made me to dwell in darkness as those that have been dead of old: * and my spirit is in anguish within me: my heart within me is troubled.

5. Memor fui diérum antiquórum, † meditátus sum in ómnibus opéribus tuis: * in factis mánuum tuárum meditábar.

I remembered the days of old, I meditated on all thy works: * I meditated upon the works of thy hands.

6. Expándi manus meas ad te: * ánima mea sicut terra sine aqua tibi.

I stretched forth my hands to thee: * my soul is as earth without water unto thee.

7. Velóciter exáudi me, Dómine: * defécit spíritus meus.

Hear me speedily, O Lord: * my spirit hath fainted away.

8. Non avértas fáciem tuam a me: * et símilis ero descendéntibus in lacum.

Turn not away thy face from me, * lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

9. Audítam fac mihi mane misericórdiam tuam: * quia in te sperávi.

Cause me to hear thy mercy in the morning; * for in thee have I hoped.

10. Notam fac mihi viam, in qua ámbulem: * quia ad te levávi ánimam meam.

Make the way known to me, wherein I should walk: * for I have lifted up my soul to thee.

11. Eripe me de inimícis meis, Dómine, ad te confúgi: * doce me fácere voluntátem tuam, quia Deus meus es tu.

Deliver me from my enemies, O Lord, to thee have I fled: * teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God.

12. Spíritus tuus bonus dedúcet me in terram rectam: * propter nomen tuum, Dómine, vivificábis me, in æquitáte tua.

Thy good spirit shall lead me into the right land: * for thy name’s sake, O Lord, thou wilt quicken me in thy justice.

13. Edúces de tribulatióne ánimam meam: * et in misericórdia tua dispérdes inimícos meos.

Thou wilt bring my soul out of trouble: * and in thy mercy thou wilt destroy my enemies.

14. Et perdes omnes, qui tríbulant ánimam meam, * quóniam ego servus tuus sum.

And thou wilt cut off all them that afflict my soul: * for I am thy servant.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Lord, thou hast blessed thy land; * Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people.

Lord, thou hast blessed thy land: * thou hast turned away the captivity of Jacob.

2. Remisísti iniquitátem plebis tuæ: * operuísti ómnia peccáta eórum.

Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people: * thou hast covered all their sins.

3. Mitigásti omnem iram tuam: * avertísti ab ira indignatiónis tuæ.

Thou hast mitigated all thy anger: * thou hast turned away from the wrath of thy indignation.

4. Convérte nos, Deus, salutáris noster: * et avérte iram tuam a nobis.

Convert us, O God our saviour: * and turn off thy anger from us.

5. Numquid in ætérnum irascéris nobis? * aut exténdes iram tuam a generatióne in generatiónem?

Wilt thou be angry with us for ever: * or wilt thou extend thy wrath from generation to generation?

6. Deus, tu convérsus vivificábis nos: * et plebs tua lætábitur in te.

Thou wilt turn, O God, and bring us to life: * and thy people shall rejoice in thee.

7. Osténde nobis, Dómine, misericórdiam tuam: * et salutáre tuum da nobis.

Shew us, O Lord, thy mercy; * and grant us thy salvation.

8. Audiam quid loquátur in me Dóminus Deus: * quóniam loquétur pacem in plebem suam.

I will hear what the Lord God will speak in me: * for he will speak peace

9. Et super sanctos suos: * et in eos, qui convertúntur ad cor.

And unto his saints: * and unto them that are converted to the heart.

10. Verúmtamen prope timéntes eum salutáre ipsíus: * ut inhábitet glória in terra nostra.

Surely his salvation is near to them that fear him: * that glory may dwell in our land.

11. Misericórdia, et véritas obviavérunt sibi: * justítia, et pax osculátæ sunt.

Mercy and truth have met each other: * justice and peace have kissed.

12. Véritas de terra orta est: * et justítia de cælo prospéxit.

Truth is sprung out of the earth: * and justice hath looked down from heaven.

13. Etenim Dóminus dabit benignitátem: * et terra nostra dabit fructum suum.

For the Lord will give goodness: * and our earth shall yield her fruit.

14. Justítia ante eum ambulábit: * et ponet in via gressus suos.

Justice shall walk before him: * and shall set his steps in the way.

15. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Lord, thou hast blessed thy land; * Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people.

Canticum: Canticum Isaiæ [4]

In the Lord * shall all the seed of Israel be justified and praised.

Verily thou art a hidden God, * the God of Israel the saviour.

2. Confúsi sunt, et erubuérunt omnes: * simul abiérunt in confusiónem fabricatóres errórum.

They are all confounded and ashamed: * the forgers of errors are gone together into confusion.

3. Israël salvátus est in Dómino salúte ætérna: * non confundémini, et non erubescétis usque in sǽculum sǽculi.

Israel is saved in the Lord with an eternal salvation: * you shall not be confounded, and you shall not be ashamed for ever and ever.

4. Quia hæc dicit Dóminus creans cælos, * ipse Deus formans terram, et fáciens eam, ipse plastes ejus:

For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens, * God himself that formed the earth, and made it, the very maker thereof:

5. Non in vanum creávit eam, ut habitarétur, formávit eam: * Ego Dóminus, et non est álius.

He did not create it in vain: he formed it to be inhabited. * I am the Lord, and there is no other.

6. Non in abscóndito locútus sum, * in loco terræ tenebróso:

I have not spoken in secret, * in a dark place of the earth:

7. Non dixi sémini Jacob frustra: Quǽrite me: * ego Dóminus loquens justítiam, annúntians recta.

I have not said to the seed of Jacob: Seek me in vain. * I am the Lord that speak justice, that declare right things.

8. Congregámini, et veníte, et accédite simul * qui salváti estis ex géntibus:

Assemble yourselves, and come, and draw near together, * ye that are saved of the Gentiles:

9. Nesciérunt qui levant lignum sculptúræ suæ, * et rogant deum non salvántem.

They have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven work, * and pray to a god that cannot save.

10. Annuntiáte, et veníte, et consiliámini simul: * Quis audítum fecit hoc ab inítio, ex tunc prædíxit illud?

Tell ye, and come, and consult together: * who hath declared this from the beginning, who hath foretold this from that time?

11. Numquid non ego Dóminus, et non est ultra Deus absque me? * Deus justus, et salvans non est præter me.

Have not I the Lord, and there is no God else besides me? * A just God and a saviour, there is none besides me.

12. Convertímini ad me, et salvi éritis, omnes fines terræ: * quia ego Deus, et non est álius.

Be converted to me, and you shall be saved, all ye ends of the earth: * for I am God, and there is no other.

13. In memetípso jurávi, egrediétur de ore meo justítiæ verbum, * et non revertétur:

I have sworn by myself, the word of justice shall go out of my mouth, * and shall not return:

14. Quia mihi curvábitur omne genu, * et jurábit omnis lingua.

For every knee shall be bowed to me, * and every tongue shall swear.

15. Ergo in Dómino, dicet, meæ sunt justítiæ et impérium: * ad eum vénient, et confundéntur omnes qui repúgnant ei.

Therefore shall he say: In the Lord are my justices and empire: * they shall come to him, and all that resist him shall be confounded.

16. In Dómino justificábitur, et laudábitur * omne semen Israël.

In the Lord shall all the seed * of Israel be justified and praised.

17. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem: * praise thy God, O Sion.

2. Quóniam confortávit seras portárum tuárum: * benedíxit fíliis tuis in te.

Because he hath strengthened the bolts of thy gates * he hath blessed thy children within thee.

3. Qui pósuit fines tuos pacem: * et ádipe fruménti sátiat te.

Who hath placed peace in thy borders: * and filleth thee with the fat of corn.

4. Qui emíttit elóquium suum terræ: * velóciter currit sermo ejus.

Who sendeth forth his speech to the earth: * his word runneth swiftly.

5. Qui dat nivem sicut lanam: * nébulam sicut cínerem spargit.

Who giveth snow like wool: * scattereth mists like ashes.

6. Mittit crystállum suam sicut buccéllas: * ante fáciem frígoris ejus quis sustinébit?

He sendeth his crystal like morsels: * who shall stand before the face of his cold?

7. Emíttet verbum suum, et liquefáciet ea: * flabit spíritus ejus, et fluent aquæ.

He shall send out his word, and shall melt them: * his wind shall blow, and the waters shall run.

8. Qui annúntiat verbum suum Jacob: * justítias, et judícia sua Israël.

Who declareth his word to Jacob: * his justices and his judgments to Israel.

9. Non fecit táliter omni natióni: * et judícia sua non manifestávit eis.

He hath not done in like manner to every nation: * and his judgments he hath not made manifest to them.

10. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

We have seen His star * in the East, and are come with gifts to worship the Lord.

Blessed be the Lord + God of Israel; * because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people:

2. Et eréxit cornu salútis nobis: * in domo David, púeri sui.

And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, * in the house of David his servant:

3. Sicut locútus est per os sanctórum, * qui a sǽculo sunt, prophetárum ejus:

As he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * who are from the beginning:

4. Salútem ex inimícis nostris, * et de manu ómnium, qui odérunt nos.

Salvation from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:

5. Ad faciéndam misericórdiam cum pátribus nostris: * et memorári testaménti sui sancti.

To perform mercy to our fathers, * and to remember his holy testament,

6. Jusjurándum, quod jurávit ad Abraham patrem nostrum, * datúrum se nobis:

The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, * that he would grant to us,

7. Ut sine timóre, de manu inimicórum nostrórum liberáti, * serviámus illi.

That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, * we may serve him without fear,

8. In sanctitáte, et justítia coram ipso, * ómnibus diébus nostris.

In holiness and justice before him, * all our days.

9. Et tu, puer, Prophéta Altíssimi vocáberis: * præíbis enim ante fáciem Dómini, paráre vias ejus:

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:

10. Ad dandam sciéntiam salútis plebi ejus: * in remissiónem peccatórum eórum:

To give knowledge of salvation to his people, * unto the remission of their sins:

11. Per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri: * in quibus visitávit nos, óriens ex alto:

Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, * in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:

12. Illumináre his, qui in ténebris, et in umbra mortis sedent: * ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.

To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: * to direct our feet into the way of peace.
