In Purificatione Beatæ Mariæ Virginis

Psalmus 31

Rejoice ye just, * and glory, all ye right of heart.

Blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven * and whose sins are covered.

2. Beátus vir, cui non imputávit Dóminus peccátum, * nec est in spíritu ejus dolus.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord hath not imputed sin, * and in whose spirit there is no guile.

3. Quóniam tácui, inveteravérunt ossa mea, * dum clamárem tota die.

Because I was silent my bones grew old; * whilst I cried out all the day long.

4. Quóniam die ac nocte graváta est super me manus tua: * convérsus sum in ærúmna mea, dum confígitur spina.

For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: * I am turned in my anguish, whilst the thorn is fastened.

5. Delíctum meum cógnitum tibi feci: * et injustítiam meam non abscóndi.

I have acknowledged my sin to thee, * and my injustice I have not concealed.

6. Dixi: Confitébor advérsum me injustítiam meam Dómino: * et tu remisísti impietátem peccáti mei.

I said I will confess against myself my injustice to the Lord: * and thou hast forgiven the wickedness of my sin.

7. Pro hac orábit ad te omnis sanctus, * in témpore opportúno.

For this shall every one that is holy pray to thee * in a seasonable time.

8. Verúmtamen in dilúvio aquárum multárum, * ad eum non approximábunt.

And yet in a flood of many waters, * they shall not come nigh unto him.

9. Tu es refúgium meum a tribulatióne, quæ circúmdedit me: * exsultátio mea, érue me a circumdántibus me.

Thou art my refuge from the trouble which hath encompassed me: * my joy, deliver me from them that surround me.

10. Intelléctum tibi dabo, et ínstruam te in via hac, qua gradiéris: * firmábo super te óculos meos.

I will give thee understanding, and I will instruct thee in this way, in which thou shalt go: * I will fix my eyes upon thee.

11. Nolíte fíeri sicut equus et mulus, * quibus non est intelléctus.

Do not become like the horse and the mule, * who have no understanding.

12. In camo et freno maxíllas eórum constrínge: * qui non appróximant ad te.

With bit and bridle bind fast their jaws, * who come not near unto thee.

13. Multa flagélla peccatóris, * sperántem autem in Dómino misericórdia circúmdabit.

Many are the scourges of the sinner, * but mercy shall encompass him that hopeth in the Lord.

14. Lætámini in Dómino et exsultáte, justi, * et gloriámini, omnes recti corde.

Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye just, * and glory, all ye right of heart.

15. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

16. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 32 (1,11)

Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just: * praise becometh the upright.

2. Confitémini Dómino in cíthara: * in psaltério decem chordárum psállite illi.

Give praise to the Lord on the harp; * sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.

3. Cantáte ei cánticum novum: * bene psállite ei in vociferatióne.

Sing to him a new canticle, * sing well unto him with a loud noise.

4. Quia rectum est verbum Dómini, * et ómnia ópera ejus in fide.

For the word of the Lord is right, * and all his works are done with faithfulness.

5. Díligit misericórdiam et judícium: * misericórdia Dómini plena est terra.

He loveth mercy and judgment; * the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.

6. Verbo Dómini cæli firmáti sunt: * et spíritu oris ejus omnis virtus eórum.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; * and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth:

7. Cóngregans sicut in utre aquas maris: * ponens in thesáuris abýssos.

Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; * laying up the depths in storehouses.

8. Tímeat Dóminum omnis terra: * ab eo autem commoveántur omnes inhabitántes orbem.

Let all the earth fear the Lord, * and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.

9. Quóniam ipse dixit, et facta sunt: * ipse mandávit, et creáta sunt.

For he spoke and they were made: * he commanded and they were created.

10. Dóminus díssipat consília Géntium: † réprobat autem cogitatiónes populórum, * et réprobat consília príncipum.

The Lord bringeth to nought the counsels of nations; * and he rejecteth the devices of people, and casteth away the counsels of princes.

11. Consílium autem Dómini in ætérnum manet: * cogitatiónes cordis ejus in generatióne et generatiónem.

But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: * the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

12. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

13. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Psalmus 32 (12,22)

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: * the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.

2. De cælo respéxit Dóminus: * vidit omnes fílios hóminum.

The Lord hath looked from heaven: * he hath beheld all the sons of men.

3. De præparáto habitáculo suo * respéxit super omnes, qui hábitant terram.

From his habitation which he hath prepared, * he hath looked upon all that dwell on the earth.

4. Qui finxit sigillátim corda eórum: * qui intélligit ómnia ópera eórum.

He who hath made the hearts of every one of them: * who understandeth all their works.

5. Non salvátur rex per multam virtútem: * et gigas non salvábitur in multitúdine virtútis suæ.

The king is not saved by a great army: * nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength.

6. Fallax equus ad salútem: * in abundántia autem virtútis suæ non salvábitur.

Vain is the horse for safety: * neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength.

7. Ecce óculi Dómini super metuéntes eum: * et in eis, qui sperant super misericórdia ejus:

Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: * and on them that hope in his mercy.

8. Ut éruat a morte ánimas eórum: * et alat eos in fame.

To deliver their souls from death; * and feed them in famine.

9. Anima nostra sústinet Dóminum: * quóniam adjútor et protéctor noster est.

Our soul waiteth for the Lord: * for he is our helper and protector.

10. Quia in eo lætábitur cor nostrum: * et in nómine sancto ejus sperávimus.

For in him our heart shall rejoice: * and in his holy name we have trusted.

11. Fiat misericórdia tua, Dómine, super nos: * quemádmodum sperávimus in te.

Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, * as we have hoped in thee.

12. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.
