Psalmus 96

The Lord hath reigned * let the earth rejoice. ‡

Quæ non repetitur in Psalmo

The Lord hath reigned, let the earth rejoice: * let many islands be glad.

2. Nubes, et calígo in circúitu ejus: * justítia, et judícium corréctio sedis ejus.

Clouds and darkness are round about him: * justice and judgment are the establishment of his throne.

3. Ignis ante ipsum præcédet: * et inflammábit in circúitu inimícos ejus.

A fire shall go before him, * and shall burn his enemies round about.

4. Illuxérunt fúlgura ejus orbi terræ: * vidit et commóta est terra.

His lightnings have shone forth to the world: * the earth saw and trembled.

5. Montes, sicut cera fluxérunt a fácie Dómini: * a fácie Dómini omnis terra.

The mountains melted like wax, at the presence of the Lord: * at the presence of the Lord of all the earth.

6. Annuntiavérunt cæli justítiam ejus: * et vidérunt omnes pópuli glóriam ejus.

The heavens declared his justice: * and all people saw his glory.

7. Confundántur omnes, qui adórant sculptília: * et qui gloriántur in simulácris suis.

Let them be all confounded that adore graven things, * and that glory in their idols.

8. Adoráte eum, omnes Angeli ejus: * audívit, et lætáta est Sion.

Adore him, all you his angels: * Sion heard, and was glad.

9. Et exsultavérunt fíliæ Judæ: * propter judícia tua, Dómine:

And the daughters of Juda rejoiced, * because of thy judgments, O Lord.

10. Quóniam tu Dóminus Altíssimus super omnem terram: * nimis exaltátus es super omnes deos.

For thou art the most high Lord over all the earth: * thou art exalted exceedingly above all gods.

11. Qui dilígitis Dóminum, odíte malum: * custódit Dóminus ánimas sanctórum suórum, de manu peccatóris liberábit eos.

You that love the Lord, hate evil: * the Lord preserveth the souls of his saints, he will deliver them out of the hand of the sinner.

12. Lux orta est justo, * et rectis corde lætítia.

Light is risen to the just, * and joy to the right of heart.

13. Lætámini, justi in Dómino: * et confitémini memóriæ sanctificatiónis ejus.

Rejoice, ye just, in the Lord: * and give praise to the remembrance of his holiness.

14. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

15. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

A hymn, O God, becometh thee in Sion: * and a vow shall be paid to thee in Jerusalem.

2. Exáudi oratiónem meam: * ad te omnis caro véniet.

O hear my prayer: * all flesh shall come to thee.

3. Verba iniquórum prævaluérunt super nos: * et impietátibus nostris tu propitiáberis.

The words of the wicked have prevailed over us: * and thou wilt pardon our transgressions.

4. Beátus quem elegísti et assumpsísti: * inhabitábit in átriis tuis.

Blessed is he whom thou hast chosen and taken to thee: * he shall dwell in thy courts.

5. Replébimur in bonis domus tuæ, sanctum est templum tuum: * mirábile in æquitáte.

We shall be filled with the good things of thy house; holy is thy temple, * wonderful in justice.

6. Exáudi nos, Deus salutáris noster: * spes ómnium fínium terræ et in mari longe.

Hear us, O God our saviour, * who art the hope of all the ends of the earth, and in the sea afar off.

7. Prǽparans montes in virtúte tua, accínctus poténtia: * qui contúrbas profúndum maris sonum flúctuum ejus.

Thou who preparest the mountains by thy strength, being girded with power: * who troublest the depth of the sea, the noise of its waves.

8. Turbabúntur Gentes, et timébunt qui hábitant términos a signis tuis: * éxitus matutíni, et véspere delectábis.

The Gentiles shall be troubled, and they that dwell in the uttermost borders shall be afraid at thy signs: * thou shalt make the outgoings of the morning and of the evening to be joyful.

9. Visitásti terram, et inebriásti eam: * multiplicásti locupletáre eam.

Thou hast visited the earth, and hast plentifully watered it; * thou hast many ways enriched it.

10. Flumen Dei replétum est aquis; parásti cibum illórum: * quóniam ita est præparátio ejus.

The river of God is filled with water, thou hast prepared their food; * for so is its preparation.

11. Rivos ejus inébria multíplica genímina ejus: * in stillicídiis ejus lætábitur gérminans.

Fill up plentifully the streams thereof, multiply its fruits; * it shall spring up and rejoice in its showers.

12. Benedíces corónæ anni benignitátis tuæ: * et campi tui replebúntur ubertáte.

Thou shalt bless the crown of the year of thy goodness: * and thy fields shall be filled with plenty.

13. Pinguéscent speciósa desérti: * et exsultatióne colles accingéntur.

The beautiful places of the wilderness shall grow fat: * and the hills shall be girded about with joy.

14. Indúti sunt aríetes óvium et valles abundábunt fruménto: * clamábunt, étenim hymnum dicent.

The rams of the flock are clothed, and the vales shall abound with corn: * they shall shout, yea they shall sing a hymn.

I shall sing to thee, O Lord * and I shall understand with a perfect heart.

Mercy and judgment * I will sing to thee, O Lord:

2. Psallam, et intélligam in via immaculáta, * quando vénies ad me.

I will sing, and I will understand in the unspotted way, * when thou shalt come to me.

3. Perambulábam in innocéntia cordis mei: * in médio domus meæ.

I walked in the innocence of my heart, * in the midst of my house.

4. Non proponébam ante óculos meos rem injústam: * faciéntes prævaricatiónes odívi.

I did not set before my eyes any unjust thing: * I hated the workers of iniquities.

5. Non adhǽsit mihi cor pravum: * declinántem a me malígnum non cognoscébam.

The perverse heart did not cleave to me: * and the malignant, that turned aside from me, I would not know.

6. Detrahéntem secréto próximo suo, * hunc persequébar.

The man that in private detracted his neighbour, * him did I persecute.

7. Supérbo óculo, et insatiábili corde, * cum hoc non edébam.

With him that had a proud eye, and an unsatiable heart, * I would not eat.

8. Oculi mei ad fidéles terræ ut sédeant mecum: * ámbulans in via immaculáta, hic mihi ministrábat.

My eyes were upon the faithful of the earth, to sit with me: * the man that walked in the perfect way, he served me.

9. Non habitábit in médio domus meæ, qui facit supérbiam: * qui lóquitur iníqua, non diréxit in conspéctu oculórum meórum.

He that worketh pride shall not dwell in the midst of my house: * he that speaketh unjust things did not prosper before my eyes.

10. In matutíno interficiébam omnes peccatóres terræ: * ut dispérderem de civitáte Dómini omnes operántes iniquitátem.

In the morning I put to death all the wicked of the land: * that I might cut off all the workers of iniquity from the city of the Lord.

O Adonai, Lord, great art thou, and glorious in thy power, * and no one can overcome thee.

3. Tibi sérviat omnis creatúra tua: * quia dixísti, et facta sunt:

Let all thy creatures serve thee: * because thou hast spoken, and they were made:

4. Misísti spíritum tuum, et creáta sunt, * et non est qui resístat voci tuæ.

Thou didst send forth thy spirit, and they were created, * and there is no one that can resist thy voice.

5. Montes a fundaméntis movebúntur cum aquis: * petræ, sicut cera, liquéscent ante fáciem tuam.

The mountains shall be moved from the foundations with the waters: * the rocks shall melt as wax before thy face.

6. Qui autem timent te, * magni erunt apud te per ómnia.

But they that fear thee, * shall be great with thee in all things.

7. Væ genti insurgénti super genus meum: Dóminus enim omnípotens vindicábit in eis, * in die judícii visitábit illos.

Woe be to the nation that riseth up against my people: for the Lord almighty will take revenge on them, * in the day of judgment he will visit them.

8. Dabit enim ignem, et vermes in carnes eórum, * ut urántur, et séntiant usque in sempitérnum.

For he will give fire, and worms into their flesh, * that they may burn, and may feel for ever.

Psalmus 145

I shall praise the Lord * in my life.

Praise the Lord, O my soul, in my life I will praise the Lord: * I will sing to my God as long as I shall be.

2. Nolíte confídere in princípibus: * in fíliis hóminum, in quibus non est salus.

Put not your trust in princes: * in the children of men, in whom there is no salvation.

3. Exíbit spíritus ejus, et revertétur in terram suam: * in illa die períbunt omnes cogitatiónes eórum.

His spirit shall go forth, and he shall return into his earth: * in that day all their thoughts shall perish.

4. Beátus, cujus Deus Jacob adjútor ejus, † spes ejus in Dómino Deo ipsíus: * qui fecit cælum et terram, mare et ómnia, quæ in eis sunt.

Blessed is he who hath the God of Jacob for his helper, whose hope is in the Lord his God: * who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all things that are in them.

5. Qui custódit veritátem in sǽculum, † facit judícium injúriam patiéntibus: * dat escam esuriéntibus.

Who keepeth truth for ever: who executeth judgment for them that suffer wrong: * who giveth food to the hungry.

6. Dóminus solvit compedítos: * Dóminus illúminat cæcos.

The Lord looseth them that are fettered: * the Lord enlighteneth the blind.

7. Dóminus érigit elísos: * Dóminus díligit justos.

The Lord lifteth up them that are cast down: * the Lord loveth the just.

8. Dóminus custódit ádvenas, † pupíllum et víduam suscípiet: * et vias peccatórum dispérdet.

The Lord keepeth the strangers, he will support the fatherless and the widow: * and the ways of sinners he will destroy.

9. Regnábit Dóminus in sǽcula, Deus tuus, Sion, * in generatiónem et generatiónem.

The Lord shall reign for ever: thy God, O Sion, * unto generation and generation.

10. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Salvation from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:

To perform mercy to our fathers, * and to remember his holy testament,

6. Jusjurándum, quod jurávit ad Abraham patrem nostrum, * datúrum se nobis:

The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, * that he would grant to us,

7. Ut sine timóre, de manu inimicórum nostrórum liberáti, * serviámus illi.

That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, * we may serve him without fear,

8. In sanctitáte, et justítia coram ipso, * ómnibus diébus nostris.

In holiness and justice before him, * all our days.

9. Et tu, puer, Prophéta Altíssimi vocáberis: * præíbis enim ante fáciem Dómini, paráre vias ejus:

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:

10. Ad dandam sciéntiam salútis plebi ejus: * in remissiónem peccatórum eórum:

To give knowledge of salvation to his people, * unto the remission of their sins:

11. Per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri: * in quibus visitávit nos, óriens ex alto:

Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, * in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:

12. Illumináre his, qui in ténebris, et in umbra mortis sedent: * ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.

To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: * to direct our feet into the way of peace.
