Psalmus 109

She is the brightness * of eternal light, and the unspotted mirror.

The Lord said to my Lord: * Sit thou at my right hand:

  1. Donec ponam inimícos tuos, * scabéllum pedum tuórum.
  2. Until I make thy enemies * thy footstool.

  3. Virgam virtútis tuæ emíttet Dóminus ex Sion: * domináre in médio inimicórum tuórum.
  4. The Lord will send forth the sceptre of thy power out of Sion: * rule thou in the midst of thy enemies.

  5. Tecum princípium in die virtútis tuæ in splendóribus sancrum: * ex útero ante lucíferum génui te.
  6. With thee is the principality in the day of thy strength: in the brightness of the saints: * from the womb before the day star I begot thee.

  7. Jurávit Dóminus, et non pœnitébit eum: * Tu es sacérdos in ætérnum secúndum órdinem Melchísedech.
  8. The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent: * Thou art a priest for ever according to the order of Melchisedech.

  9. Dóminus a dextris tuis, * confrégit in die i suæ reges.
  10. The Lord at thy right hand * hath broken kings in the day of his wrath.

  11. Judicábit in natiónibus, implébit ruínas: * conquassábit cápita in terra mulrum.
  12. He shall judge among nations, he shall fill ruins: * he shall crush the heads in the land of many.

  13. De torrénte in via bibet: * proptérea exaltábit caput.
  14. He shall drink of the torrent in the way: * therefore shall he lift up the head.

  15. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  16. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  17. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  18. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

She is the brightness * of eternal light, and the unspotted mirror.

Psalmus 112

A woman * clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Praise the Lord, ye children: * praise ye the name of the Lord.

  1. Sit nomen Dómini benedíctum, * ex hoc nunc, et usque in culum.
  2. (bow head) Blessed be the name of the Lord, * from henceforth now and for ever.

  3. A solis ortu usque ad ocsum, * laudábile nomen mini.
  4. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, * the name of the Lord is worthy of praise.

  5. Excélsus super omnes gentes minus, * et super cælos glória ejus.
  6. The Lord is high above all nations; * and his glory above the heavens.

  7. Quis sicut Dóminus, Deus noster, qui in altis bitat, * et humília réspicit in cælo et in terra?
  8. Who is as the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high: * and looketh down on the low things in heaven and in earth?

  9. Súscitans a terra ínopem, * et de stércore érigens páuperem:
  10. Raising up the needy from the earth, * and lifting up the poor out of the dunghill:

  11. Ut cóllocet eum cum prinpibus, * cum princípibus pópuli sui.
  12. That he may place him with princes, * with the princes of his people.

  13. Qui habitáre facit stérilem in domo, * matrem filiórum tántem.
  14. Who maketh a barren woman to dwell in a house, * the joyful mother of children.

  15. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  16. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  17. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

A woman * clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Psalmus 121

Thou art the exaltation of Jerusalem, * thou art the great glory of Israel, thou art the great rejoicing of our nation.

I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: * We shall go into the house of the Lord.

  1. Stantes erant pedes nostri, * in átriis tuis, Jesalem.
  2. Our feet were standing * in thy courts, O Jerusalem.

  3. Jerúsalem, quæ ædificátur ut vitas: * cujus participátio ejus in idípsum.
  4. Jerusalem, which is built as a city, * which is compact together.

  5. Illuc enim ascendérunt tribus, tribus mini: * testimónium Israël ad confiténdum nómini mini.
  6. For thither did the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord: * the testimony of Israel, to praise the name of the Lord.

  7. Quia illic sedérunt sedes in jucio, * sedes super domum David.
  8. Because their seats have sat in judgment, * seats upon the house of David.

  9. Rogáte quæ ad pacem sunt Jesalem: * et abundántia diligéntibus te:
  10. Pray ye for the things that are for the peace of Jerusalem: * and abundance for them that love thee.

  11. Fiat pax in virtúte tua: * et abundántia in túrribus tuis.
  12. Let peace be in thy strength: * and abundance in thy towers.

  13. Propter fratres meos, et próximos meos, * loquébar pacem de te:
  14. For the sake of my brethren, and of my neighbours, * I spoke peace of thee.

  15. Propter domum Dómini, Dei nostri, * quæsívi bona tibi.
  16. Because of the house of the Lord our God, * I have sought good things for thee.

  17. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  18. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  19. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  20. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Thou art the exaltation of Jerusalem, * thou art the great glory of Israel, thou art the great rejoicing of our nation.

Psalmus 126

Virgin Mary, * blessed art thou of the Most High God, above all the women upon the earth.

Unless the Lord build the house, * they labour in vain that build it.

  1. Nisi Dóminus custodíerit civitem, * frustra vígilat qui cusdit eam.
  2. Unless the Lord keep the city, * he watcheth in vain that keepeth it.

  3. Vanum est vobis ante lucem súrgere: * súrgite postquam sedéritis, qui manducátis panem doris.
  4. It is vain for you to rise before light, * rise ye after you have sitten, you that eat the bread of sorrow.

  5. Cum déderit diléctis suis somnum: * ecce heréditas Dómini fílii: merces, fructus ventris.
  6. When he shall give sleep to his beloved, * behold the inheritance of the Lord are children: the reward, the fruit of the womb.

  7. Sicut sagíttæ in manu poténtis: * ita fílii excusrum.
  8. As arrows in the hand of the mighty, * so the children of them that have been shaken.

  9. Beátus vir qui implévit desidérium suum ex ipsis: * non confundétur cum loquétur inimícis suis in porta.
  10. Blessed is the man that hath filled the desire with them; * he shall not be confounded when he shall speak to his enemies in the gate.

  11. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spitui Sancto.
  12. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  13. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæcurum. Amen.
  14. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Virgin Mary, * blessed art thou of the Most High God, above all the women upon the earth.

Psalmus 147

This day the Lord * hath so magnified thy name that thy praise shall not depart out of the mouth of men.

Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem: * praise thy God, O Sion.

  1. Quóniam confortávit seras portárum tuárum: * benedíxit fíliis tuis in te.
  2. Because he hath strengthened the bolts of thy gates * he hath blessed thy children within thee.

  3. Qui pósuit fines tuos pacem: * et ádipe fruménti sátiat te.
  4. Who hath placed peace in thy borders: * and filleth thee with the fat of corn.

  5. Qui emíttit elóquium suum terræ: * velóciter currit sermo ejus.
  6. Who sendeth forth his speech to the earth: * his word runneth swiftly.

  7. Qui dat nivem sicut lanam: * nébulam sicut cínerem spargit.
  8. Who giveth snow like wool: * scattereth mists like ashes.

  9. Mittit crystállum suam sicut buccéllas: * ante fáciem frígoris ejus quis sustibit?
  10. He sendeth his crystal like morsels: * who shall stand before the face of his cold?

  11. Emíttet verbum suum, et liquefáciet ea: * flabit spíritus ejus, et fluent aquæ.
  12. He shall send out his word, and shall melt them: * his wind shall blow, and the waters shall run.

  13. Qui annúntiat verbum suum Jacob: * justítias, et judícia sua Israël.
  14. Who declareth his word to Jacob: * his justices and his judgments to Israel.

  15. Non fecit táliter omni natióni: * et judícia sua non manifestávit eis.
  16. He hath not done in like manner to every nation: * and his judgments he hath not made manifest to them.

Amen.

This day the Lord * hath so magnified thy name that thy praise shall not depart out of the mouth of men.

Capitulum Responsorium Versus

Cant 2:13-14

Surge, amíca mea, speciósa mea, et veni, colúmba mea, in foramínibus petræ, in cavérna macériæ, * osténde mihi fáciem tuam, sonet vox tua in áuribus meis.

Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come: My dove in the clefts of the rock, in the hollow places of the wall, show me thy face, let thy voice sound in my ears.

Hymnus

1. Lo! Mary is exempt from stain of sin, Proclaims the Pontiff high; And earth applauding celebrates with joy Her triumph, far and nigh. 2. Unto a lowly timid maid she shows Her form in beauty fair, And the Immaculate Conception truth Her sacred lips declare. 3. O honoured cave, by Mary's smile adorned! O hallow'd rock, whence spring The living waters of a gushing stream, The gifts of life to bring. 4. And thither from the farmost bounds of earth The pilgrims wend their way, And suppliant around the Virgin's shrine Her powerful help they pray. 5. The sufferers' cry the Mother fondly hears, And grants the longed-for grace; And health restored, the pilgrim throng returns Unto its native place. 6. O Virgin! have compassion on our needs, Refresh us labouring on; Obtain for us the joys of heavenly life, When sorrow all is gone. 7. All praise and honour to the Father be, And to his only Son, And to the Spirit, Pow'r of both for aye, In Godhead ever One. Amen.
