Incipit

Psalmus 50

O Lord, according to the multitude of thy tender mercies, * blot out my transgressions.

Have mercy on me, O God, * according to thy great mercy.

  1. Et secúndum multitúdinem miseratiónum tuárum, * dele iniquitátem meam.
  2. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies * blot out my iniquity.

  3. Amplius lava me ab iniquite mea: * et a peccáto meo munda me.
  4. Wash me yet more from my iniquity, * and cleanse me from my sin.

  5. Quóniam iniquitátem meam ego cognósco: * et peccátum meum contra me est semper.
  6. For I know my iniquity, * and my sin is always before me.

  8. To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: * that thou mayst be justified in thy words, and mayst overcome when thou art judged.

  9. Ecce enim in iniquitátibus concéptus sum: * et in peccátis concépit me mater mea.
  10. For behold I was conceived in iniquities; * and in sins did my mother conceive me.

  12. For behold thou hast loved truth: * the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.

  13. Aspérges me hyssópo, et munbor: * lavábis me, et super nivem dealbor.
  14. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: * thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

  15. Audítui meo dabis gáudium ettiam: * et exsultábunt ossa humiliáta.
  16. To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: * and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.

  17. Avérte fáciem tuam a pectis meis: * et omnes iniquitátes meas dele.
  18. Turn away thy face from my sins, * and blot out all my iniquities.

  19. Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: * et spíritum rectum ínnova in viscéribus meis.
  20. Create a clean heart in me, O God: * and renew a right spirit within my bowels.

  21. Ne projícias me a cie tua: * et spíritum sanctum tuum ne áuferas a me.
  22. Cast me not away from thy face; * and take not thy holy spirit from me.

  23. Redde mihi lætítiam saluris tui: * et spíritu principáli confírma me.
  24. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, * and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.

  26. I will teach the unjust thy ways: * and the wicked shall be converted to thee.

  27. Líbera me de sanguínibus, Deus, Deus satis meæ: * et exsultábit lingua mea justítiam tuam.
  28. Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: * and my tongue shall extol thy justice.

  29. Dómine, lábia mea aries: * et os meum annuntiábit laudem tuam.
  30. O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: * and my mouth shall declare thy praise.

  32. For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: * with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.

  34. A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: * a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

  35. Benígne fac, Dómine, in bona voluntáte tua Sion: * ut ædificéntur muri Jesalem.
  36. Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; * that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.

  37. Tunc acceptábis sacrifícium justítiæ, oblatiónes, et holocáusta: * tunc impónent super altáre tuum tulos.
  38. Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: * then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.

  39. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  40. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  41. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  42. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O Lord, according to the multitude of thy tender mercies, * blot out my transgressions.

Psalmus 62

O God, early will I seek thee, * to see thy power.

O God, my God, * to thee do I watch at break of day.

  1. Sitívit in te ánima mea, * quam multiplíciter tibi caro mea.
  2. For thee my soul hath thirsted; * for thee my flesh, O how many ways!

  4. In a desert land, and where there is no way, and no water: * so in the sanctuary have I come before thee, to see thy power and thy glory.

  5. Quóniam mélior est misericórdia tua super vitas: * lábia mea laubunt te.
  6. For thy mercy is better than lives: * thee my lips shall praise.

  7. Sic benedícam te in vita mea: * et in nómine tuo levábo manus meas.
  8. Thus will I bless thee all my life long: * and in thy name I will lift up my hands.

  9. Sicut ádipe et pinguédine repleátur ánima mea: * et lábiis exsultatiónis laubit os meum.
  10. Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: * and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.

  11. Si memor fui tui super stratum meum, in matutínis medibor in te: * quia fuísti adtor meus.
  12. If I have remembered thee upon my bed, I will meditate on thee in the morning: * because thou hast been my helper.

  13. Et in velaménto alárum tuárum exsultábo, adhǽsit ánima mea post te: * me suscépit déxtera tua.
  14. And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings: my soul hath stuck close to thee: * thy right hand hath received me.

  15. Ipsi vero in vanum quæsiérunt ánimam meam, introíbunt in inferióra terræ: * tradéntur in manus gládii, partes vúlpium erunt.
  16. But they have sought my soul in vain, they shall go into the lower parts of the earth: * they shall be delivered into the hands of the sword, they shall be the portions of foxes.

  17. Rex vero lætábitur in Deo, laudabúntur omnes qui jurant in eo: * quia obstrúctum est os loquéntium iníqua.
  18. But the king shall rejoice in God, all they shall be praised that swear by him: * because the mouth is stopped of them that speak wicked things.

  19. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spitui Sancto.
  20. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  21. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæcurum. Amen.
  22. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O God, early will I seek thee, * to see thy power.

Capitulum Responsorium Versus

1 Cor 13:1

Brothers: If I speak with the tongues of men, and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Hymnus

1. Maker of all, eternal King, Who day and night about dost bring: Who weary mortals to relieve, Dost in their times the seasons give: 2. Now the shrill cock proclaims the day, And calls the sun’s awak’ning ray The wand’ring pilgrim’s guiding light, That marks the watches night by night. 3. Roused at the note, the morning star Heaven’s dusky veil uplifts afar: Night’s vagrant bands no longer roam, But from their dark ways hie them home. 4. The encouraged sailor’s fears are o’er, The foaming billows rage no more: Lo! e’en the very Church’s rock Melts at the crowing of the cock. 5. O let us then like men arise; The cock rebukes our slumbering eyes, Bestirs who still in sleep would lie, And shames who would their Lord deny. 6. New hope his clarion-note awakes, Sickness the feeble frame forsakes, The robber sheathes his lawless sword, Faith to the fallen is restored. 7. Look on us, Jesu, when we fall, And with thy look our souls recall: If thou but look, our sins are gone, And with due tears our pardon won. 8. Shed through our hearts thy piercing ray, Our souls’ dull slumber drive away: Thy name be first on every tongue, To thee our earliest praises sung. 9. All laud to God the Father be, All praise, Eternal Son, to thee, All glory, as is ever meet, To God the holy Paraclete. Amen.

  2. And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, * in the house of David his servant:

  4. As he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * who are from the beginning:

  6. Salvation from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:

  8. To perform mercy to our fathers, * and to remember his holy testament,

  12. That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, * we may serve him without fear,

  13. In sanctitáte, et justítia coram ipso, * ómnibus diébus nostris.
  14. In holiness and justice before him, * all our days.

  15. Et tu, puer, Prophéta Altíssimi voberis: * præíbis enim ante fáciem Dómini, paráre vias ejus:
  16. And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:

  17. Ad dandam sciéntiam salútis plebi ejus: * in remissiónem peccatórum eórum:
  18. To give knowledge of salvation to his people, * unto the remission of their sins:

  20. Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, * in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:

  22. To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: * to direct our feet into the way of peace.

  23. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  24. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  25. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
