    2. Like the precious ointment on the head, * that ran down upon the beard, the beard of Aaron,

I will give glory * to thy name, for thy mercy, and for thy truth.

I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart: * for thou hast heard the words of my mouth.

  1. In conspéctu Angelórum psallam tibi: * adorábo ad templum sanctum tuum, et confitébor nómini tuo.

    2. I will sing praise to thee in the sight of the Angels: * I will worship towards thy holy temple, and I will give glory to thy name.

  2. Super misericórdia tua, et veritáte tua: * quóniam magnificásti super omne, nomen sanctum tuum.

    3. For thy mercy, and for thy truth: * for thou hast magnified thy holy name

    7. For the Lord is high, and looketh on the low: * and the high he knoweth afar off.

  7. Si ambulávero in médio tribulatiónis, vivificábis me: † et super iram inimicórum meórum extendísti manum tuam, * et salvum me fecit déxtera tua.

    8. If I shall walk in the midst of tribulation, thou wilt quicken me: * and thou hast stretched forth thy hand against the wrath of my enemies: and thy right hand hath saved me.

  8. Dóminus retríbuet pro me: † Dómine, misericórdia tua in sǽculum: * ópera mánuum tuárum ne despícias.

    9. The Lord will repay for me: * thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: O despise not the works of thy hands.

Ioël 2:17

Inter vestíbulum et altáre plorábunt sacerdótes, minístri Dómini, et dicent: † Parce, Dómine, parce pópulo tuo: * et ne des hereditátem tuam in oppróbrium, ut dominéntur eis natiónes.

Between the porch and the altar the priests the Lord's ministers shall weep, and shall say: Spare, O Lord, spare thy people: and give not thy inheritance to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them.

1. O kind Creator, bow thine ear To mark the cry, to know the tear Before thy throne of mercy spent In this thy holy fast of Lent. 2. Our hearts are open, Lord, to thee: Thou knowest our infirmity; Pour out on all who seek thy face Abundance of thy pardoning grace. 3. Our sins are many, this we know; Spare us, good Lord, thy mercy show; And for the honour of thy name Our fainting souls to life reclaim. 4. Give us the self-control that springs From discipline of outward things, That fasting inward secretly The soul may purely dwell with thee. 5. 1. My soul + * doth magnify the Lord. 2. And my spirit hath rejoiced * in God my Saviour.

  1. Quia respéxit humilitátem ancíllæ suæ: * ecce enim ex hoc beátam me dicent omnes generatiónes.

    2. Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; * for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

  2. Quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est: * et sanctum nomen ejus.

    3. Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; * and holy is his name.

O Lord, help thy servants, and grant unto their prayers this abiding effect of thy mercy that as they do make their boast in thee, that it is Thou which hast created and dost govern them, so Thou wilt renew in them the gifts wherewith Thou didst bountifully endow them, and wilt preserve what Thou hast renewed.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
