Dominica II Passionis seu in Palmis

Ad Laudes

Incipit

Psalmus 50

The Lord God will help me * and therefore I am not confounded.

Have mercy on me, O God, * according to thy great mercy.

  1. Et secúndum multitúdinem miseratiónum tuárum, * dele iniquitátem meam.
  2. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies * blot out my iniquity.

  3. Amplius lava me ab iniquitáte mea: * et a peccáto meo munda me.
  4. Wash me yet more from my iniquity, * and cleanse me from my sin.

  5. Quóniam iniquitátem meam ego cognósco: * et peccátum meum contra me est semper.
  6. For I know my iniquity, * and my sin is always before me.

  8. To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: * that thou mayst be justified in thy words, and mayst overcome when thou art judged.

  9. Ecce enim in iniquitátibus concéptus sum: * et in peccátis concépit me mater mea.
  10. For behold I was conceived in iniquities; * and in sins did my mother conceive me.

  12. For behold thou hast loved truth: * the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.

  13. Aspérges me hyssópo, et munbor: * lavábis me, et super nivem dealbor.
  14. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: * thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

  15. Audítui meo dabis gáudium et lætiam: * et exsultábunt ossa humiliáta.
  16. To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: * and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.

  17. Avérte fáciem tuam a peccátis meis: * et omnes iniquitátes meas dele.
  18. Turn away thy face from my sins, * and blot out all my iniquities.

  19. Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: * et spíritum rectum ínnova in viscéribus meis.
  20. Create a clean heart in me, O God: * and renew a right spirit within my bowels.

  21. Ne projícias me a fácie tua: * et spíritum sanctum tuum ne áuferas a me.
  22. Cast me not away from thy face; * and take not thy holy spirit from me.

  23. Redde mihi lætítiam salutáris tui: * et spíritu principáli confírma me.
  24. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, * and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.

  26. I will teach the unjust thy ways: * and the wicked shall be converted to thee.

  27. Líbera me de sanguínibus, Deus, Deus salútis meæ: * et exsultábit lingua mea justítiam tuam.
  28. Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: * and my tongue shall extol thy justice.

  29. Dómine, lábia mea aries: * et os meum annuntiábit laudem tuam.
  30. O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: * and my mouth shall declare thy praise.

  32. For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: * with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.

  34. A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: * a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

  35. Benígne fac, Dómine, in bona voluntáte tua Sion: * ut ædificéntur muri Jesalem.
  36. Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; * that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.

  37. Tunc acceptábis sacrifícium justítiæ, oblatiónes, et holocáusta: * tunc impónent super altáre tuum tulos.
  38. Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: * then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.

  39. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  40. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  41. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  42. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Lord God will help me * and therefore I am not confounded.

Psalmus 117

They compassed me about, * yea, they compassed me about but in the Name of the Lord! I will destroy them.

Give praise to the Lord, for he is good: * for his mercy endureth for ever.

  1. Dicat nunc Israël quóniam bonus: * quóniam in sǽculum misericórdia ejus.
  2. Let Israel now say, that he is good: * that his mercy endureth for ever.

  3. Dicat nunc domus Aaron: * quóniam in sǽculum misericórdia ejus.
  4. Let the house of Aaron now say, * that his mercy endureth for ever.

  8. In my trouble I called upon the Lord: * and the Lord heard me, and enlarged me.

  9. Dóminus mihi adtor: * non timébo quid fáciat mihi homo.
  10. The Lord is my helper: * I will not fear what man can do unto me.

  11. Dóminus mihi adtor: * et ego despíciam inimícos meos.
  12. The Lord is my helper: * and I will look over my enemies.

  14. It is good to confide in the Lord, * rather than to have confidence in man.

  16. It is good to trust in the Lord, * rather than to trust in princes.

  17. Omnes Gentes circuiérunt me: * et in nómine Dómini quia ultus sum in eos.
  18. All nations compassed me about; * and in the name of the Lord I have been revenged on them.

  19. Circumdántes circumderunt me: * et in nómine Dómini quia ultus sum in eos.
  20. Surrounding me they compassed me about: * and in the name of the Lord I have been revenged on them.

  21. Circumdedérunt me sicut apes, et exarsérunt sicut ignis in spinis: * et in nómine Dómini quia ultus sum in eos.
  22. They surrounded me like bees, and they burned like fire among thorns: * and in the name of the Lord I was revenged on them.

  23. Impúlsus evérsus sum ut derem: * et Dóminus suscépit me.
  24. Being pushed I was overturned that I might fall: * but the Lord supported me.

  26. The Lord is my strength and my praise: * and he is become my salvation.

  27. Vox exsultatiónis, et satis: * in tabernáculis jusrum.
  28. The voice of rejoicing and of salvation * is in the tabernacles of the just.

  29. Déxtera Dómini fecit virtútem: déxtera Dómini exalvit me, * déxtera Dómini fecit virtem.
  30. The right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength: the right hand of the Lord hath exalted me: * the right hand of the Lord hath wrought strength.

  32. I shall not die, but live: * and shall declare the works of the Lord.

  33. Castígans castivit me minus: * et morti non trádidit me.
  34. The Lord chastising hath chastised me: * but he hath not delivered me over to death.

  35. Aperíte mihi portas justítiæ, ingréssus in eas confibor mino: * hæc porta Dómini, justi intrábunt in eam.
  36. Open ye to me the gates of justice: I will go in to them, and give praise to the Lord. * This is the gate of the Lord, the just shall enter into it.

  37. Confitébor tibi quóniam exaudísti me: * et factus es mihi in satem.
  38. I will give glory to thee because thou hast heard me: * and art become my salvation.

  39. Lápidem, quem reprobavérunt ædificántes: * hic factus est in caput ánguli.
  40. The stone which the builders rejected; * the same is become the head of the corner.

  42. This is the Lord’s doing: * and it is wonderful in our eyes.

  44. This is the day which the Lord hath made: * let us be glad and rejoice therein.

  45. O Dómine, salvum me fac, o Dómine bene prospere: * benedíctus qui venit in nómine mini.
  46. O Lord, save me: O Lord, give good success: * Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

  48. We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord: * The Lord is God, and he hath shone upon us.

  49. Constitúite diem solémnem in condénsis, * usque ad cornu alris.
  50. Appoint a solemn day, with shady boughs, * even to the horn of the altar.

  51. Deus meus es tu, et confibor tibi: * Deus meus es tu, et exalbo te.
  52. Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: * thou art my God, and I will exalt thee.

They compassed me about, * yea, they compassed me about but in the Name of the Lord! I will destroy them.

Psalmus 62

Judge Thou my cause, * and redeem me, O Lord, for Thou art mighty to save.

O God, my God, * to thee do I watch at break of day.

  1. Sitívit in te ánima mea, * quam multiplíciter tibi caro mea.
  2. For thee my soul hath thirsted; * for thee my flesh, O how many ways!

  4. In a desert land, and where there is no way, and no water: * so in the sanctuary have I come before thee, to see thy power and thy glory.

  5. Quóniam mélior est misericórdia tua super vitas: * lábia mea laubunt te.
  6. For thy mercy is better than lives: * thee my lips shall praise.

  7. Sic benedícam te in vita mea: * et in nómine tuo levábo manus meas.
  8. Thus will I bless thee all my life long: * and in thy name I will lift up my hands.

  9. Sicut ádipe et pinguédine repleátur ánima mea: * et lábiis exsultatiónis laudábit os meum.
  10. Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: * and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.

  11. Si memor fui tui super stratum meum, in matutínis meditábor in te: * quia fuísti adjútor meus.
  12. If I have remembered thee upon my bed, I will meditate on thee in the morning: * because thou hast been my helper.

  13. Et in velaménto alárum tuárum exsultábo, adhǽsit ánima mea post te: * me suscépit déxtera tua.
  14. And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings: my soul hath stuck close to thee: * thy right hand hath received me.

  15. Ipsi vero in vanum quæsiérunt ánimam meam, introíbunt in inferióra terræ: * tradéntur in manus gládii, partes vúlpium erunt.
  16. But they have sought my soul in vain, they shall go into the lower parts of the earth: * they shall be delivered into the hands of the sword, they shall be the portions of foxes.

  17. Rex vero lætábitur in Deo, laudabúntur omnes qui jurant in eo: * quia obstrúctum est os loquéntium iníqua.
  18. But the king shall rejoice in God, all they shall be praised that swear by him: * because the mouth is stopped of them that speak wicked things.

  19. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  20. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  21. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  22. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Judge Thou my cause, * and redeem me, O Lord, for Thou art mighty to save.

Capitulum Responsorium Versus

Phil 2:5-7

For let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man.

Hymnus

1. Thirty years among us dwelling, His appointed time fulfilled, Born for this, he meets his passion, For that this he freely willed: On the cross the Lamb is lifted, Where his life-blood shall be spilled. 2. He endured the nails, the spitting, Vinegar, and spear, and reed; From that holy body broken Blood and water forth proceed: Earth, and stars, and sky, and ocean, By that flood from stain are free. 3. Faithful cross! above all other, One and only noble tree! None in foliage, none in blossom, None in fruit thy peers may be; Sweetest wood and sweetest iron! Sweetest weight is hung on thee. 4. Bend thy boughs, O tree of glory! Thy relaxing sinews bend; For awhile the ancient rigour, That thy birth bestowed, suspend; And the King of heavenly beauty On thy bosom gently tend! 5. Thou alone wast counted worthy This world's ransom to uphold; For a shipwrecked race preparing Harbour, like the ark of old; With the sacred blood anointed From the smitten Lamb that rolled. 6. To the Trinity be glory Everlasting, as is meet; Equal to the Father, equal To the Son, and Paraclete: Trinal Unity, whose praises All created things repeat. Amen.

Almighty and everlasting God, Who, of thy tender love towards mankind, hast sent thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ to take upon Him our flesh and to suffer death upon the Cross, that all mankind should follow the example of His great humility; mercifully grant, that we may both follow the example of His patience, and also be made partakers of His resurrection.
Through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, Our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
