Psalmus 61

Shall not my soul be subject to God? * for from him is my salvation.

2. Nam et ipse Deus meus, et salutáris meus: * suscéptor meus, non movébor ámplius.

For he is my God and my saviour: * he is my protector, I shall be moved no more.

3. Quoúsque irrúitis in hóminem? * interfícitis univérsi vos: tamquam paríeti inclináto et macériæ depúlsæ?

How long do you rush in upon a man? * you all kill, as if you were thrusting down a leaning wall, and a tottering fence.

4. Verúmtamen prétium meum cogitavérunt repéllere, cucúrri in siti: * ore suo benedicébant, et corde suo maledicébant.

But they have thought to cast away my price; I ran in thirst: * they blessed with their mouth, but cursed with their heart.

5. Verúmtamen Deo subjécta esto, ánima mea: * quóniam ab ipso patiéntia mea.

But be thou, O my soul, subject to God: * for from him is my patience.

6. Quia ipse Deus meus, et salvátor meus: * adjútor meus, non emigrábo.

For he is my God and my saviour: * he is my helper, I shall not be moved.

7. In Deo salutáre meum, et glória mea: * Deus auxílii mei, et spes mea in Deo est.

In God is my salvation and my glory: * he is the God of my help, and my hope is in God.

8. Speráte in eo omnis congregátio pópuli, effúndite coram illo corda vestra: * Deus adjútor noster in ætérnum.

Trust in him, all ye congregation of people: pour out your hearts before him. * God is our helper for ever.

9. Verúmtamen vani fílii hóminum, mendáces fílii hóminum in statéris: * ut decípiant ipsi de vanitáte in idípsum.

But vain are the sons of men, the sons of men are liars in the balances: * that by vanity they may together deceive.

10. Nolíte speráre in iniquitáte, et rapínas nolíte concupíscere: * divítiæ si áffluant, nolíte cor appónere.

Trust not in iniquity, and cover not robberies: * if riches abound, set not your heart upon them.

11. Semel locútus est Deus, duo hæc audívi, quia potéstas Dei est, et tibi, Dómine, misericórdia: * quia tu reddes unicuíque juxta ópera sua.

God hath spoken once, these two things have I heard, that power belongeth to God, and mercy to thee, O Lord; * for thou wilt render to every man according to his works.

Psalmus 65 (1,12)

Shout with joy to God, all the earth, sing ye a psalm to his name; * give glory to his praise.

2. Dícite Deo: Quam terribília sunt ópera tua, Dómine! * in multitúdine virtútis tuæ mentiéntur tibi inimíci tui.

Say unto God, How terrible are thy works, O Lord! * in the multitude of thy strength thy enemies shall lie to thee.

3. Omnis terra adóret te, et psallat tibi: * psalmum dicat nómini tuo.

Let all the earth adore thee, * and sing to thee: let it sing a psalm to thy name.

4. Veníte, et vidéte ópera Dei: * terríbilis in consíliis super fílios hóminum.

Come and see the works of God; * who is terrible in his counsels over the sons of men.

5. Qui convértit mare in áridam, in flúmine pertransíbunt pede: * ibi lætábimur in ipso.

Who turneth the sea into dry land, in the river they shall pass on foot: * there shall we rejoice in him.

6. Qui dominátur in virtúte sua in ætérnum, óculi ejus super Gentes respíciunt: * qui exásperant non exalténtur in semetípsis.

Who by his power ruleth for ever: his eyes behold the nations; * let not them that provoke him be exalted in themselves.

7. Benedícite, Gentes, Deum nostrum: * et audítam fácite vocem laudis ejus,

O bless our God, ye Gentiles: * and make the voice of his praise to be heard.

8. Qui pósuit ánimam meam ad vitam: * et non dedit in commotiónem pedes meos.

Who hath set my soul to live: * and hath not suffered my feet to be moved:

9. Quóniam probásti nos, Deus: * igne nos examinásti, sicut examinátur argéntum.

For thou, O God, hast proved us: * thou hast tried us by fire, as silver is tried.

10. Induxísti nos in láqueum, posuísti tribulatiónes in dorso nostro: * imposuísti hómines super cápita nostra.

Thou hast brought us into a net, thou hast laid afflictions on our back: * thou hast set men over our heads.

11. Transívimus per ignem et aquam: * et eduxísti nos in refrigérium.

We have passed through fire and water, * and thou hast brought us out into a refreshment.

Psalmus 65 (13,20)

I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: * I will pay thee my vows, which my lips have uttered,

2. Et locútum est os meum, * in tribulatióne mea.

And my mouth hath spoken, * when I was in trouble.

3. Holocáusta medulláta ófferam tibi cum incénso aríetum: * ófferam tibi boves cum hircis.

I will offer up to thee holocausts full of marrow, with burnt offerings of rams: * I will offer to thee bullocks with goats.

4. Veníte, audíte, et narrábo, omnes, qui timétis Deum: * quanta fecit ánimæ meæ.

Come and hear, all ye that fear God, * and I will tell you what great things he hath done for my soul.

5. Ad ipsum ore meo clamávi, * et exaltávi sub lingua mea.

I cried to him with my mouth: * and I extolled him with my tongue.

6. Iniquitátem si aspéxi in corde meo, * non exáudiet Dóminus.

If I have looked at iniquity in my heart, * the Lord will not hear me.

7. Proptérea exaudívit Deus, * et atténdit voci deprecatiónis meæ.

Therefore hath God heard me, * and hath attended to the voice of my supplication.

8. Benedíctus Deus, * qui non amóvit oratiónem meam, et misericórdiam suam a me.

Blessed be God, * who hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

Psalmus 67 (1,11)

Let God arise, and let his enemies be scattered: * and let them that hate him flee from before his face.

2. Sicut déficit fumus, defíciant: * sicut fluit cera a fácie ignis, sic péreant peccatóres a fácie Dei.

As smoke vanisheth, so let them vanish away: * as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

3. Et justi epuléntur, et exsúltent in conspéctu Dei: * et delecténtur in lætítia.

And let the just feast, and rejoice before God: * and be delighted with gladness.

4. Cantáte Deo, psalmum dícite nómini ejus: * iter fácite ei, qui ascéndit super occásum: Dóminus nomen illi.

Sing ye to God, sing a psalm to his name, * make a way for him who ascendeth upon the west: (bow head) the Lord is his name.

5. Exsultáte in conspéctu ejus: * turbabúntur a fácie ejus, patris orphanórum et júdicis viduárum.

Rejoice ye before him: * but the wicked shall be troubled at his presence, who is the father of orphans, and the judge of widows.

6. Deus in loco sancto suo: * Deus, qui inhabitáre facit uníus moris in domo:

God in his holy place: * God who maketh men of one manner to dwell in a house:

7. Qui edúcit vinctos in fortitúdine, * simíliter eos qui exásperant, qui hábitant in sepúlcris.

Who bringeth out them that were bound in strength; * in like manner them that provoke, that dwell in sepulchres.

8. Deus, cum egrederéris in conspéctu pópuli tui, * cum pertransíres in desérto:

O God, when thou didst go forth in the sight of thy people, * when thou didst pass through the desert:

9. Terra mota est, étenim cæli distillavérunt a fácie Dei Sínai, * a fácie Dei Israël.

The earth was moved, and the heavens dropped at the presence of the God of Sinai, * at the presence of the God of Israel.

10. Plúviam voluntáriam segregábis, Deus, hereditáti tuæ: * et infirmáta est, tu vero perfecísti eam.

Thou shalt set aside for thy inheritance a free rain, * O God: and it was weakened, but thou hast made it perfect.

11. Animália tua habitábunt in ea: * parásti in dulcédine tua páuperi, Deus.

In it shall thy animals dwell; * in thy sweetness, O God, thou hast provided for the poor.

12. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Psalmus 67 (12,24)

The Lord shall give the word to them that preach good tidings, * with great power.

2. Rex virtútum dilécti dilécti: * et speciéi domus divídere spólia.

The king of powers is of the beloved, * of the beloved; and the beauty of the house shall divide spoils.

3. Si dormiátis inter médios cleros, pennæ colúmbæ deargentátæ, * et posterióra dorsi ejus in pallóre auri.

If you sleep among the midst of lots, you shall be as the wings of a dove covered with silver, * and the hinder parts of her back with the paleness of gold.

4. Dum discérnit cæléstis reges super eam, nive dealbabúntur in Selmon: * mons Dei, mons pinguis.

When he that is in heaven appointeth kings over her, * they shall be whited with snow in Selmon.

5. Mons coagulátus, mons pinguis: * ut quid suspicámini montes coagulátos?

The mountain of God is a fat mountain, a curdled mountain, a fat mountain; * Why suspect, ye curdled mountains?

6. Mons, in quo beneplácitum est Deo habitáre in eo: * étenim Dóminus habitábit in finem.

A mountain in which God is well pleased to dwell: * for there the Lord shall dwell unto the end.

7. Currus Dei decem míllibus múltiplex, míllia lætántium: * Dóminus in eis in Sina in sancto.

The chariot of God is attended by ten thousands; thousands of them that rejoice: * the Lord is among them in Sinai, in the holy place.

8. Ascendísti in altum, cepísti captivitátem: * accepísti dona in homínibus.

Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive; * thou hast received gifts in men.

9. Etenim non credéntes, * inhabitáre Dóminum Deum.

Yea for those also that do not believe, * the dwelling of the Lord God.

10. Benedíctus Dóminus die quotídie: * prósperum iter fáciet nobis Deus salutárium nostrórum.

Blessed be the Lord day by day: * the God of our salvation will make our journey prosperous to us.

11. Deus noster, Deus salvos faciéndi: * et Dómini Dómini éxitus mortis.

Our God is the God of salvation: * and of the Lord, of the Lord are the issues from death.

12. Verúmtamen Deus confrínget cápita inimicórum suórum: * vérticem capílli perambulántium in delíctis suis.

But God shall break the heads of his enemies: * the hairy crown of them that walk on in their sins.

13. Dixit Dóminus: Ex Basan convértam, * convértam in profúndum maris:

The Lord said: I will turn them from Basan, * I will turn them into the depth of the sea:

14. Ut intingátur pes tuus in sánguine: * lingua canum tuórum ex inimícis, ab ipso.

That thy foot may be dipped in the blood of thy enemies; * the tongue of thy dogs be red with the same.

Psalmus 67 (25,36)

They have seen thy goings, O God, * the goings of my God: of my king who is in his sanctuary.

2. Prævenérunt príncipes conjúncti psalléntibus: * in médio juvenculárum tympanistriárum.

Princes went before joined with singers, * in the midst of young damsels playing on timbrels.

3. In ecclésiis benedícite Deo Dómino, * de fóntibus Israël.

In the churches bless ye God the Lord, * from the fountains of Israel.

4. Ibi Bénjamin adolescéntulus: * in mentis excéssu.

There is Benjamin a youth, * in ecstasy of mind.

5. Príncipes Juda, duces eórum: * príncipes Zábulon, príncipes Néphtali.

The princes of Juda are their leaders: * the princes of Zabulon, the princes of Nephthali.

6. Manda, Deus, virtúti tuæ: * confírma hoc, Deus, quod operátus es in nobis.

Command thy strength, O God: * confirm, O God, what thou hast wrought in us.

7. A templo tuo in Jerúsalem, * tibi ófferent reges múnera.

From thy temple in Jerusalem, * kings shall offer presents to thee.

8. Increpa feras arúndinis, congregátio taurórum in vaccis populórum: * ut exclúdant eos, qui probáti sunt argénto.

Rebuke the wild beasts of the reeds, the congregation of bulls with the kine of the people; * who seek to exclude them who are tried with silver.

9. Díssipa Gentes, quæ bella volunt: vénient legáti ex Ægýpto: * Æthiópia prævéniet manus ejus Deo.

Scatter thou the nations that delight in wars: ambassadors shall come out of Egypt: * Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands to God.

10. Regna terræ, cantáte Deo: * psállite Dómino.

Sing to God, ye kingdoms of the earth: * sing ye to the Lord:

11. Psállite Deo, qui ascéndit super cælum cæli, * ad Oriéntem.

Sing ye to God, who mounteth above the heaven of heavens, * to the east.

12. Ecce dabit voci suæ vocem virtútis, date glóriam Deo super Israël, * magnificéntia ejus, et virtus ejus in núbibus.

Behold he will give to his voice the voice of power: * give ye glory to God for Israel, * his magnificence, and his power is in the clouds.

13. Mirábilis Deus in sanctis suis, Deus Israël ipse dabit virtútem, et fortitúdinem plebi suæ, * benedíctus Deus.

God is wonderful in his saints: the God of Israel is he who will give power and strength to his people; * blessed be God.

Psalmus 68 (2,13)

Save me, O God: * for the waters are come in even unto my soul.

2. Infíxus sum in limo profúndi: * et non est substántia.

I stick fast in the mire of the deep: * and there is no sure standing.

3. Veni in altitúdinem maris: * et tempéstas demérsit me.

I am come into the depth of the sea: * and a tempest hath overwhelmed me.

4. Laborávi clamans, raucæ factæ sunt fauces meæ: * defecérunt óculi mei, dum spero in Deum meum.

I have laboured with crying; my jaws are become hoarse: * my eyes have failed, whilst I hope in my God.

5. Multiplicáti sunt super capíllos cápitis mei, * qui odérunt me gratis.

They are multiplied above the hairs of my head, * who hate me without cause.

6. Confortáti sunt qui persecúti sunt me inimíci mei injúste: * quæ non rápui, tunc exsolvébam.

My enemies are grown strong who have wrongfully persecuted me: * then did I pay that which I took not away.

7. Deus, tu scis insipiéntiam meam: * et delícta mea a te non sunt abscóndita.

O God, thou knowest my foolishness; * and my offences are not hidden from thee.

8. Non erubéscant in me qui exspéctant te, Dómine, * Dómine virtútum

Let not them be ashamed for me, who look for thee, O Lord, * the Lord of hosts.

9. Non confundántur super me * qui quærunt te, Deus Israël.

Let them not be confounded on my account, * who seek thee, O God of Israel.

10. Quóniam propter te sustínui oppróbrium: * opéruit confúsio fáciem meam.

Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; * shame hath covered my face.

11. Extráneus factus sum frátribus meis, * et peregrínus fíliis matris meæ.

I am become a stranger to my brethren, * and an alien to the sons of my mother.

12. Quóniam zelus domus tuæ comédit me: * et oppróbria exprobrántium tibi cecidérunt super me.

For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up: * and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

13. Et opérui in jejúnio ánimam meam: * et factum est in oppróbrium mihi.

And I covered my soul in fasting: * and it was made a reproach to me.

14. Et pósui vestiméntum meum cilícium: * et factus sum illis in parábolam.

And I made haircloth my garment: * and I became a byword to them.

15. Advérsum me loquebántur, qui sedébant in porta: * et in me psallébant qui bibébant vinum.

They that sat in the gate spoke against me: * and they that drank wine made me their song.

16. Ego vero oratiónem meam ad te, Dómine: * tempus benepláciti, Deus.

But as for me, my prayer is to thee, O Lord; * for the time of thy good pleasure, O God.

Psalmus 68 (14,29)

In the multitude of thy mercy hear me, * in the truth of thy salvation.

2. Eripe me de luto, ut non infígar: * líbera me ab iis, qui odérunt me, et de profúndis aquárum.

Draw me out of the mire, that I may not stick fast: * deliver me from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

3. Non me demérgat tempéstas aquæ, † neque absórbeat me profúndum: * neque úrgeat super me púteus os suum.

Let not the tempest of water drown me, nor the deep swallow me up: * and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

4. Exáudi me, Dómine, quóniam benígna est misericórdia tua: * secúndum multitúdinem miseratiónum tuárum réspice in me.

Hear me, O Lord, for thy mercy is kind; * look upon me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

5. Et ne avértas fáciem tuam a púero tuo: * quóniam tríbulor, velóciter exáudi me.

And turn not away thy face from thy servant: * for I am in trouble, hear me speedily.

6. Inténde ánimæ meæ, et líbera eam: * propter inimícos meos éripe me.

Attend to my soul, and deliver it: * save me because of my enemies.

7. Tu scis impropérium meum, et confusiónem meam, * et reveréntiam meam.

Thou knowest my reproach, and my confusion, * and my shame.

8. In conspéctu tuo sunt omnes qui tríbulant me: * impropérium exspectávit cor meum, et misériam.

In thy sight are all they that afflict me; * my heart hath expected reproach and misery.

9. Et sustínui qui simul contristarétur, et non fuit: * et qui consolarétur, et non invéni.

And I looked for one that would grieve together with me, * but there was none: and for one that would comfort me, and I found none.

10. Et dedérunt in escam meam fel: * et in siti mea potavérunt me acéto.

And they gave me gall for my food, * and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

11. Fiat mensa eórum coram ipsis in láqueum, * et in retributiónes, et in scándalum.

Let their table become as a snare before them, * and a recompense, and a stumblingblock.

12. Obscuréntur óculi eórum ne vídeant: * et dorsum eórum semper incúrva.

Let their eyes be darkened that they see not; * and their back bend thou down always.

13. Effúnde super eos iram tuam: * et furor iræ tuæ comprehéndat eos.

Pour out thy indignation upon them: * and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.

14. Fiat habitátio eórum desérta: * et in tabernáculis eórum non sit qui inhábitet.

Let their habitation be made desolate: * and let there be none to dwell in their tabernacles.

15. Quóniam quem tu percussísti, persecúti sunt: * et super dolórem vúlnerum meórum addidérunt.

Because they have persecuted him whom thou hast smitten; * and they have added to the grief of my wounds.

16. Appóne iniquitátem super iniquitátem eórum: * et non intrent in justítiam tuam.

Add thou iniquity upon their iniquity: * and let them not come into thy justice.

17. Deleántur de libro vivéntium: * et cum justis non scribántur.

Let them be blotted out of the book of the living; * and with the just let them not be written.

18. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Psalmus 68 (30,37)

I am poor and sorrowful: * thy salvation, O God, hath set me up.

2. Laudábo nomen Dei cum cántico: * et magnificábo eum in laude:

I will praise the name of God with a canticle: * and I will magnify him with praise.

3. Et placébit Deo super vítulum novéllum: * córnua producéntem et úngulas.

And it shall please God better than a young calf, * that bringeth forth horns and hoofs.

4. Vídeant páuperes et læténtur: * quǽrite Deum, et vivet ánima vestra.

Let the poor see and rejoice: * seek ye God, and your soul shall live.

5. Quóniam exaudívit páuperes Dóminus: * et vinctos suos non despéxit.

For the Lord hath heard the poor: * and hath not despised his prisoners.

6. Laudent illum cæli et terra, * mare et ómnia reptília in eis.

Let the heavens and the earth praise him; * the sea, and every thing that creepeth therein.

7. Quóniam Deus salvam fáciet Sion: * et ædificabúntur civitátes Juda.

For God will save Sion, * and the cities of Juda shall be built up.

8. Et inhabitábunt ibi, * et hereditáte acquírent eam.

And they shall dwell there, * and acquire it by inheritance.

9. Et semen servórum ejus possidébit eam: * et qui díligunt nomen ejus, habitábunt in ea.

And the seed of his servants shall possess it; * and they that love his name shall dwell therein.
