1. O God of truth, O Lord of might, Who orderest time and change aright, Who send’st the early morning ray, And light’st the glow of perfect day: 2. Extinguish thou each sinful fire, And banish every ill desire; And while thou keep’st the body whole, Shed forth thy peace upon the soul. 3. Almighty Father, hear our cry, Through Jesus Christ, our Lord most High, Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee, Doth live and reign eternally. Amen.

Psalmus 118 (81,96)

They were all filled * with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak, alleluia, alleluia.

(Caph) My soul hath fainted after thy salvation: * and in thy word I have very much hoped.

  1. Defecérunt óculi mei in elóquium tuum: * dicéntes: Quando consoláberis me?

    2. My eyes have failed for thy word, * saying: When wilt thou comfort me?

  2. Quia factus sum sicut uter in pruína: * justificatiónes tuas non sum oblítus.

    3. For I am become like a bottle in the frost: * I have not forgotten thy justifications.

    4. How many are the days of thy servant: * when wilt thou execute judgment on them that persecute me?

(Mem) How have I loved thy law, O Lord! * it is my meditation all the day.

  1. Super inimícos meos prudéntem me fecísti mandáto tuo: * quia in ætérnum mihi est.

    2. Through thy commandment, thou hast made me wiser than my enemies: * for it is ever with me.

  2. Super omnes docéntes me intelléxi: * quia testimónia tua meditátio mea est.

    3. I have understood more than all my teachers: * because thy testimonies are my meditation.

  3. Super senes intelléxi: * quia mandáta tua quæsívi.

    4. I have had understanding above ancients: * because I have sought thy commandments.

  4. Ab omni via mala prohíbui pedes meos: * ut custódiam verba tua.

    5. I have restrained my feet from every evil way: * that I may keep thy words.

  2. Declináte a me, malígni: * et scrutábor mandáta Dei mei.

    3. Depart from me, ye malignant: * and I will search the commandments of my God.

  3. Súscipe me secúndum elóquium tuum, et vivam: * et non confúndas me ab exspectatióne mea.

    4. Uphold me according to thy word, and I shall live: * and let me not be confounded in my expectation.

    14. It is time, O Lord, to do: * they have dissipated thy law.

  14. Ideo diléxi mandáta tua, * super aurum et topázion.

    15. Therefore have I loved thy commandments * above gold and the topaz.

Facta autem hac voce, convénit multitúdo, † et mente confúsa est, quóniam audiébat unusquísque lingua sua illos loquéntes.

And when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded in mind, because that every man heard them speak in his own tongue.

Mentes nostras, quǽsumus; Dómine, Paráclitus, * qui a te procédit, illúminet: † et indúcat in omnem, sicut tuus promísit Fílius, veritátem: †
Qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte eiúsdem Spíritus Sancti, Deus, per ómnia sǽcula sæculórum.

O Lord, we beseech thee, that the Comforter, Which proceeded from thee, may enlighten our minds, and lead us into all truth, even as thy Son hath promised unto us.
Who with thee liveth and reigneth, in the unity of the same Holy Spirit, God, world without end.
