Have mercy on me, * O God, according to thy great mercy. ‡

Quæ non repetitur in Psalmo

Have mercy on me, O God, * according to thy great mercy.

2. Et secúndum multitúdinem miseratiónum tuárum, * dele iniquitátem meam.

And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies * blot out my iniquity.

3. Amplius lava me ab iniquitáte mea: * et a peccáto meo munda me.

Wash me yet more from my iniquity, * and cleanse me from my sin.

4. Quóniam iniquitátem meam ego cognósco: * et peccátum meum contra me est semper.

For I know my iniquity, * and my sin is always before me.

5. Tibi soli peccávi, et malum coram te feci: * ut justificéris in sermónibus tuis, et vincas cum judicáris.

To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: * that thou mayst be justified in thy words, and mayst overcome when thou art judged.

6. Ecce enim in iniquitátibus concéptus sum: * et in peccátis concépit me mater mea.

For behold I was conceived in iniquities; * and in sins did my mother conceive me.

7. Ecce enim veritátem dilexísti: * incérta et occúlta sapiéntiæ tuæ manifestásti mihi.

For behold thou hast loved truth: * the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.

8. Aspérges me hyssópo, et mundábor: * lavábis me, et super nivem dealbábor.

Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: * thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

9. Audítui meo dabis gáudium et lætítiam: * et exsultábunt ossa humiliáta.

To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: * and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.

10. Avérte fáciem tuam a peccátis meis: * et omnes iniquitátes meas dele.

Turn away thy face from my sins, * and blot out all my iniquities.

11. Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: * et spíritum rectum ínnova in viscéribus meis.

Create a clean heart in me, O God: * and renew a right spirit within my bowels.

12. Ne projícias me a fácie tua: * et spíritum sanctum tuum ne áuferas a me.

Cast me not away from thy face; * and take not thy holy spirit from me.

13. Redde mihi lætítiam salutáris tui: * et spíritu principáli confírma me.

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, * and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.

14. Docébo iníquos vias tuas: * et ímpii ad te converténtur.

I will teach the unjust thy ways: * and the wicked shall be converted to thee.

15. Líbera me de sanguínibus, Deus, Deus salútis meæ: * et exsultábit lingua mea justítiam tuam.

Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: * and my tongue shall extol thy justice.

16. Dómine, lábia mea apéries: * et os meum annuntiábit laudem tuam.

O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: * and my mouth shall declare thy praise.

17. Quóniam si voluísses sacrifícium, dedíssem útique: * holocáustis non delectáberis.

For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: * with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.

18. Sacrifícium Deo spíritus contribulátus: * cor contrítum et humiliátum, Deus, non despícies.

A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: * a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

19. Benígne fac, Dómine, in bona voluntáte tua Sion: * ut ædificéntur muri Jerúsalem.

Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; * that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.

20. Tunc acceptábis sacrifícium justítiæ, oblatiónes, et holocáusta: * tunc impónent super altáre tuum vítulos.

Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: * then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.

21. Glória Patri, et Fílio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

22. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.

Conduct me, * O Lord, in thy justice.

Give ear, O Lord, to my words * understand my cry.

2. Inténde voci oratiónis meæ: * Rex meus et Deus meus.

Hearken to the voice of my prayer, * O my King and my God.

3. Quóniam ad te orábo: * Dómine, mane exáudies vocem meam.

For to thee will I pray: * O Lord, in the morning thou shalt hear my voice.

4. Mane astábo tibi et vidébo: * quóniam non Deus volens iniquitátem tu es.

In the morning I will stand before thee, and will see: * because thou art not a God that willest iniquity.

5. Neque habitábit juxta te malígnus: * neque permanébunt injústi ante óculos tuos.

Neither shall the wicked dwell near thee: * nor shall the unjust abide before thy eyes.

6. Odísti omnes, qui operántur iniquitátem: * perdes omnes, qui loquúntur mendácium.

Thou hatest all the workers of iniquity: * thou wilt destroy all that speak a lie.

7. Virum sánguinum et dolósum abominábitur Dóminus: * ego autem in multitúdine misericórdiæ tuæ.

The bloody and the deceitful man the Lord will abhor. * But as for me in the multitude of thy mercy,

8. Introíbo in domum tuam: * adorábo ad templum sanctum tuum in timóre tuo.

I will come into thy house; * I will worship towards thy holy temple, in thy fear.

9. Dómine, deduc me in justítia tua: * propter inimícos meos dírige in conspéctu tuo viam meam.

Conduct me, O Lord, in thy justice: * because of my enemies, direct my way in thy sight.

10. Quóniam non est in ore eórum véritas: * cor eórum vanum est.

For there is no truth in their mouth: * their heart is vain.

11. Sepúlcrum patens est guttur eórum, † linguis suis dolóse agébant, * júdica illos, Deus.

Their throat is an open sepulchre: they dealt deceitfully with their tongues: * judge them, O God.

12. Décidant a cogitatiónibus suis, † secúndum multitúdinem impietátum eórum expélle eos, * quóniam irritavérunt te, Dómine.

Let them fall from their devices: according to the multitude of their wickednesses cast them out: * for they have provoked thee, O Lord.

13. Et læténtur omnes, qui sperant in te, * in ætérnum exsultábunt: et habitábis in eis.

But let all them be glad that hope in thee: * they shall rejoice for ever, and thou shalt dwell in them.

14. Et gloriabúntur in te omnes, qui díligunt nomen tuum: * quóniam tu benedíces justo.

And all they that love thy name shall glory in thee: * For thou wilt bless the just.

15. Dómine, ut scuto bonæ voluntátis tuæ * coronásti nos.

O Lord, thou hast crowned us, * as with a shield of thy good will.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

Psalmus 28

God will give * power and strength to his people.

Bring to the Lord, O ye children of God: * bring to the Lord the offspring of rams.

2. Afférte Dómino glóriam et honórem, afférte Dómino glóriam nómini ejus: * adoráte Dóminum in átrio sancto ejus.

Bring to the Lord glory and honour: bring to the Lord glory to his name: * adore ye the Lord in his holy court.

3. Vox Dómini super aquas, Deus majestátis intónuit: * Dóminus super aquas multas.

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of majesty hath thundered, * The Lord is upon many waters.

4. Vox Dómini in virtúte: * vox Dómini in magnificéntia.

The voice of the Lord is in power; * the voice of the Lord in magnificence.

5. Vox Dómini confringéntis cedros: * et confrínget Dóminus cedros Líbani.

The voice of the Lord breaketh the cedars: * yea, the Lord shall break the cedars of Libanus.

6. Et commínuet eas tamquam vítulum Líbani: * et diléctus quemádmodum fílius unicórnium.

And shall reduce them to pieces, as a calf of Libanus, * and as the beloved son of unicorns.

7. Vox Dómini intercidéntis flammam ignis: * vox Dómini concutiéntis desértum: et commovébit Dóminus desértum Cades.

The voice of the Lord divideth the flame of fire: * The voice of the Lord shaketh the desert: and the Lord shall shake the desert of Cades.

8. Vox Dómini præparántis cervos, et revelábit condénsa: * et in templo ejus omnes dicent glóriam.

The voice of the Lord prepareth the stags: and he will discover the thick woods: * and in his temple all shall speak his glory.

9. Dóminus dilúvium inhabitáre facit: * et sedébit Dóminus Rex in ætérnum.

The Lord maketh the flood to dwell: * and the Lord shall sit king for ever.

10. Dóminus virtútem pópulo suo dabit: * Dóminus benedícet pópulo suo in pace.

The Lord will give strength to his people: * the Lord will bless his people with peace.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

2. Ecce Deus salvátor meus, * fiduciáliter agam, et non timébo.

Behold, God is my saviour, * I will deal confidently, and will not fear:

3. Quia fortitúdo mea et laus mea Dóminus, * et factus est mihi in salútem.

Because the Lord is my strength, and my praise, * and he is become my salvation.

4. Hauriétis aquas in gáudio de fóntibus Salvatóris: † et dicétis in die illa: * Confitémini Dómino, et invocáte nomen ejus:

You shall draw waters with joy out of the saviour’s fountains: * And you shall say in that day: Praise ye the Lord, and call upon his name:

5. Notas fácite in pópulis adinventiónes ejus: * mementóte quóniam excélsum est nomen ejus.

Make his works known among the people: * remember that his name is high.

6. Cantáte Dómino quóniam magnífice fecit: * annuntiáte hoc in univérsa terra.

Sing ye to the Lord, for he hath done great things: * shew this forth in all the earth.

7. Exsúlta et lauda habitátio Sion: * quia magnus in médio tui sanctus Israel.

Rejoice, and praise, O thou habitation of Sion: * for great is he that is in the midst of thee the Holy One of Israel.

For his mercy is confirmed upon us: * and the truth of the Lord remaineth for ever.

As he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * who are from the beginning:

4. Salútem ex inimícis nostris, * et de manu ómnium, qui odérunt nos.

Salvation from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:

5. Ad faciéndam misericórdiam cum pátribus nostris: * et memorári testaménti sui sancti.

To perform mercy to our fathers, * and to remember his holy testament,

6. Jusjurándum, quod jurávit ad Abraham patrem nostrum, * datúrum se nobis:

The oath, which he swore to Abraham our father, * that he would grant to us,

7. Ut sine timóre, de manu inimicórum nostrórum liberáti, * serviámus illi.

That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, * we may serve him without fear,

8. In sanctitáte, et justítia coram ipso, * ómnibus diébus nostris.

In holiness and justice before him, * all our days.

9. Et tu, puer, Prophéta Altíssimi vocáberis: * præíbis enim ante fáciem Dómini, paráre vias ejus:

And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:

10. Ad dandam sciéntiam salútis plebi ejus: * in remissiónem peccatórum eórum:

To give knowledge of salvation to his people, * unto the remission of their sins:

11. Per víscera misericórdiæ Dei nostri: * in quibus visitávit nos, óriens ex alto:

Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, * in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:

12. Illumináre his, qui in ténebris, et in umbra mortis sedent: * ad dirigéndos pedes nostros in viam pacis.

To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: * to direct our feet into the way of peace.
