Incipit

Psalmus 50

In thy good will, O Lord, * deal favourably with Sion.

Have mercy on me, O God, * according to thy great mercy.

  1. Et secúndum multitúdinem miseratiónum tuárum, * dele iniquitátem meam.
  2. And according to the multitude of thy tender mercies * blot out my iniquity.

  3. Amplius lava me ab iniquitáte mea: * et a peccáto meo munda me.
  4. Wash me yet more from my iniquity, * and cleanse me from my sin.

  5. Quóniam iniquitátem meam ego cognósco: * et peccátum meum contra me est semper.
  6. For I know my iniquity, * and my sin is always before me.

  8. To thee only have I sinned, and have done evil before thee: * that thou mayst be justified in thy words, and mayst overcome when thou art judged.

  9. Ecce enim in iniquitátibus concéptus sum: * et in peccátis concépit me mater mea.
  10. For behold I was conceived in iniquities; * and in sins did my mother conceive me.

  12. For behold thou hast loved truth: * the uncertain and hidden things of thy wisdom thou hast made manifest to me.

  13. Aspérges me hyssópo, et munbor: * lavábis me, et super nivem dealbor.
  14. Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: * thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

  15. Audítui meo dabis gáudium et tiam: * et exsultábunt ossa humiliáta.
  16. To my hearing thou shalt give joy and gladness: * and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.

  17. Avérte fáciem tuam a peccátis meis: * et omnes iniquitátes meas dele.
  18. Turn away thy face from my sins, * and blot out all my iniquities.

  19. Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: * et spíritum rectum ínnova in viscéribus meis.
  20. Create a clean heart in me, O God: * and renew a right spirit within my bowels.

  21. Ne projícias me a fácie tua: * et spíritum sanctum tuum ne áuferas a me.
  22. Cast me not away from thy face; * and take not thy holy spirit from me.

  23. Redde mihi lætítiam salutáris tui: * et spíritu principáli confírma me.
  24. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, * and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.

  26. I will teach the unjust thy ways: * and the wicked shall be converted to thee.

  27. Líbera me de sanguínibus, Deus, Deus salútis meæ: * et exsultábit lingua mea justítiam tuam.
  28. Deliver me from blood, O God, thou God of my salvation: * and my tongue shall extol thy justice.

  29. Dómine, lábia mea aries: * et os meum annuntiábit laudem tuam.
  30. O Lord, thou wilt open my lips: * and my mouth shall declare thy praise.

  32. For if thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: * with burnt offerings thou wilt not be delighted.

  34. A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: * a contrite and humbled heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

  35. Benígne fac, Dómine, in bona voluntáte tua Sion: * ut ædificéntur muri Jesalem.
  36. Deal favourably, O Lord, in thy good will with Sion; * that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up.

  37. Tunc acceptábis sacrifícium justítiæ, oblatiónes, et holocáusta: * tunc impónent super altáre tuum tulos.
  38. Then shalt thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations and whole burnt offerings: * then shall they lay calves upon thy altar.

  39. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  40. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  41. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  42. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

In thy good will, O Lord, * deal favourably with Sion.

Psalmus 91

The Lord our God is righteous * and there is no iniquity in him.

It is good to give praise to the Lord: * and to sing to thy name, O most High.

  2. To shew forth thy mercy in the morning, * and thy truth in the night:

  3. In decachórdo, psalrio: * cum cántico, in thara.
  4. Upon an instrument of ten strings, upon the psaltery: * with a canticle upon the harp.

  5. Quia delectásti me, Dómine, in factúra tua: * et in opéribus mánuum tuárum exsulbo.
  6. For thou hast given me, O Lord, a delight in thy doings: * and in the works of thy hands I shall rejoice.

  7. Quam magnificáta sunt ópera tua, mine! * nimis profúndæ factæ sunt cogitatiónes tuæ.
  8. O Lord, how great are thy works! * thy thoughts are exceeding deep.

  10. The senseless man shall not know: * nor will the fool understand these things.

  12. When the wicked shall spring up as grass: * and all the workers of iniquity shall appear:

  14. That they may perish for ever and ever: * but thou, O Lord, art most high for evermore.

  15. Quóniam ecce inimíci tui, Dómine, quóniam ecce inimíci tui períbunt: * et dispergéntur omnes, qui operántur iniquitem.
  16. For behold thy enemies, O Lord, for behold thy enemies shall perish: * and all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

  17. Et exaltábitur sicut unicórnis cornu meum: * et senéctus mea in misericórdia úberi.
  18. But my horn shall be exalted like that of the unicorn: * and my old age in plentiful mercy.

  19. Et despéxit óculus meus inimícos meos: * et in insurgéntibus in me malignántibus áudiet auris mea.
  20. My eye also hath looked down upon my enemies: * and my ear shall hear of the downfall of the malignant that rise up against me.

  21. Justus, ut palma flobit: * sicut cedrus Líbani multiplibitur.
  22. The just shall flourish like the palm tree: * he shall grow up like the cedar of Libanus.

  23. Plantáti in domo mini, * in átriis domus Dei nostri flobunt.
  24. They that are planted in the house of the Lord * shall flourish in the courts of the house of our God.

  26. They shall still increase in a fruitful old age: * and shall be well treated, that they may shew,

  28. That the Lord our God is righteous, * and there is no iniquity in him.

  29. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  30. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  31. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  32. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Lord our God is righteous * and there is no iniquity in him.

Psalmus 63

Deliver my soul, * O Lord, from the fear of the enemy.

Hear, O God, my prayer, when I make supplication to thee: * deliver my soul from the fear of the enemy.

  1. Protexísti me a convéntu malignántium: * a multitúdine operántium iniquitem.
  2. Thou hast protected me from the assembly of the malignant; * from the multitude of the workers of iniquity.

  3. Quia exacuérunt ut gládium linguas suas: * intendérunt arcum rem amáram, ut sagíttent in occúltis immacutum.
  4. For they have whetted their tongues like a sword; * they have bent their bow a bitter thing, to shoot in secret the undefiled.

  6. They will shoot at him on a sudden, and will not fear: * they are resolute in wickedness.

  7. Narravérunt ut abscónderent queos: * dixérunt: Quis vidébit eos?
  8. They have talked of hiding snares; * they have said: Who shall see them?

  9. Scrutáti sunt iniquites: * defecérunt scrutántes scrunio.
  10. They have searched after iniquities: * they have failed in their search.

  12. Man shall come to a deep heart: * and God shall be exalted.

  14. The arrows of children are their wounds: * and their tongues against them are made weak.

  16. All that saw them were troubled; * and every man was afraid.

  17. Et annuntiavérunt ópera Dei, * et facta ejus intellerunt.
  18. And they declared the works of God: * and understood his doings.

  19. Lætábitur justus in Dómino, et sperábit in eo: * et laudabúntur omnes recti corde.
  20. The just shall rejoice in the Lord, and shall hope in him: * and all the upright in heart shall be praised.

  21. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  22. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  23. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  24. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Deliver my soul, * O Lord, from the fear of the enemy.

Canticum: Canticum Moysis [4]

The Lord will judge * his servants, and will have mercy on the people of his land.

Hear, O ye heavens, the things I speak, * let the earth give ear to the words of my mouth.

  1. Concréscat ut plúvia doctrína mea, * fluat ut ros equium meum.
  2. Let my doctrine gather as the rain, * let my speech distill as the dew,

  3. Quasi imber super herbam, et quasi stillæ super grámina. * Quia nomen Dómini invobo.
  4. As a shower upon the herb, and as drops upon the grass. * Because I will invoke the name of the Lord:

  6. Give ye magnificence to our God. * The works of God are perfect, and all his ways are judgments:

  7. Deus fidélis, et absque ulla iniquitáte, justus et rectus. * Peccavérunt ei, et non fílii ejus in sórdibus:
  8. God is faithful and without any iniquity, he is just and right. * They have sinned against him, and are none of his children in their filth:

  9. Generátio prava atque pervérsa. * Hǽccine reddis Dómino, pópule stulte et inpiens?
  10. They are a wicked and perverse generation. * Is this the return thou makest to the Lord, O foolish and senseless people?

  12. Is not he thy father, * that hath possessed thee, and made thee, and created thee?

  13. Meménto diérum antiquórum, * cógita generatiónes síngulas:
  14. Remember the days of old, * think upon every generation:

  15. Intérroga patrem tuum, et annuntiábit tibi: * majóres tuos, et dicent tibi.
  16. Ask thy father, and he will declare to thee: * thy elders and they will tell thee.

  17. Quando dividébat Altíssimus Gentes: * quando separábat lios Adam.
  18. When the Most High divided the nations: * when he separated the sons of Adam,

  19. Constítuit términos popurum * juxta númerum filiórum Israël.
  20. He appointed the bounds of people * according to the number of the children of Israel.

  21. Pars autem Dómini, pópulus ejus: * Jacob funículus hereditis ejus.
  22. But the Lord’s portion is his people: * Jacob the lot of his inheritance.

  23. Invénit eum in terra desérta, * in loco horróris et vastæ solidinis:
  24. He found him in a desert land, * in a place of horror, and of vast wilderness:

  25. Circumdúxit eum, et cuit: * et custodívit quasi pupíllam óculi sui.
  26. He led him about, and taught him: * and he kept him as the apple of his eye.

  28. As the eagle enticing her young to fly, * and hovering over them,

  30. He spread his wings, and hath taken him * and carried him on his shoulders.

  32. The Lord alone was his leader: * and there was no strange god with him.

  33. Constítuit eum super excélsam terram: * ut coméderet fructus agrórum,
  34. He set him upon high land: * that he might eat the fruits of the fields,

  36. That he might suck honey out of the rock, * and oil out of the hardest stone,

  38. Butter of the herd, and milk of the sheep * with the fat of lambs, and of the rams of the breed of Basan:

  40. And goats with the marrow of wheat, * and might drink the purest blood of the grape.

  42. The beloved grew fat, and kicked: * he grew fat, and thick and gross,

  43. Derelíquit Deum, factórem suum, * et recéssit a Deo, saluri suo.
  44. He forsook God who made him, * and departed from God his saviour.

  46. They provoked him by strange gods, * and stirred him up to anger, with their abominations.

  48. They sacrificed to devils and not to God: * to gods whom they knew not:

  49. Novi recentésque verunt, * quos non coluérunt patres eórum.
  50. That were newly come up, * whom their fathers worshipped not.

  52. Thou hast forsaken the God that beget * and hast forgotten the Lord that created thee.

  53. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spitui Sancto.
  54. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  55. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæcurum. Amen.
  56. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Lord will judge * his servants, and will have mercy on the people of his land.

  2. Praise ye him for his mighty acts: * praise ye him according to the multitude of his greatness.

  3. Laudáte eum in sono tubæ: * laudáte eum in psaltério, et thara.
  4. Praise him with sound of trumpet: * praise him with psaltery and harp.

  5. Laudáte eum in týmpano, et choro: * laudáte eum in chordis, et órgano.
  6. Praise him with timbrel and choir: * praise him with strings and organs.

  9. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  10. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  11. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  12. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Praise ye the Lord * according to the excellence of his greatness.

Capitulum Responsorium Versus

Isa 58:1

Cry, cease not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their wicked doings, and the house of Jacob their sins.

Hymnus

1. Jesu, salvation’s Sun Divine, Within our inmost bosoms shine, With light all darkness drive away And give the world a better day. 2. Now days of grace with mercy flow, O Lord, the gift of tears bestow, To wash our stains in every part, Whilst heavenly fire consumes the heart. 3. Rise, crystal tears, from that same source From whence our sins derive their course; Nor cease, till hardened hearts relent, And softened by your streams, repent. 4. Behold, the happy days return, The days of joy for them that mourn; May we of their indulgence share, And bless the God that grants our prayer. 5. May heaven and earth aloud proclaim The Trinity’s almighty fame; And we, restored to grace, rejoice In newness both of heart and voice. Amen.

Versus

Canticum: Canticum Zachariæ

Jesus took His disciples, * and went up into a mountain, and was transfigured before them.

Blessed be the Lord + God of Israel; * because he hath visited and wrought the redemption of his people:

  1. Et eréxit cornu salútis nobis: * in domo David, púeri sui.
  2. And hath raised up an horn of salvation to us, * in the house of David his servant:

  4. As he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, * who are from the beginning:

  6. Salvation from our enemies, * and from the hand of all that hate us:

  8. To perform mercy to our fathers, * and to remember his holy testament,

  12. That being delivered from the hand of our enemies, * we may serve him without fear,

  13. In sanctitáte, et justítia coram ipso, * ómnibus diébus nostris.
  14. In holiness and justice before him, * all our days.

  15. Et tu, puer, Prophéta Altíssimi voberis: * præíbis enim ante fáciem Dómini, paráre vias ejus:
  16. And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: * for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways:

  17. Ad dandam sciéntiam salútis plebi ejus: * in remissiónem peccatórum eórum:
  18. To give knowledge of salvation to his people, * unto the remission of their sins:

  20. Through the bowels of the mercy of our God, * in which the Orient from on high hath visited us:

  22. To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death: * to direct our feet into the way of peace.

  23. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.

Pater

« Pater Noster » dicitur totum secreto.
Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificétur nomen tuum: advéniat regnum tuum: fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie: et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris: et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem: sed líbera nos a malo. Amen.

Look down mercifully, O Lord, we beseech thee, upon thy people, and graciously turn away from them the scourges of thy wrath.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.

Conclusio
