Behold the handmaid of the Lord, * be it unto me according to thy word.

(Phe) Thy testimonies are wonderful: * therefore my soul hath sought them.

  1. Declarátio sermónum tuórum illúminat: * et intelléctum dat párvulis.

    2. The declaration of thy words giveth light: * and giveth understanding to little ones.

  2. Os meum apérui, et attráxi spíritum: * quia mandáta tua desiderábam.

    3. I opened my mouth, and panted: * because I longed for thy commandments.

  3. Aspice in me, et miserére mei: * secúndum judícium diligéntium nomen tuum.

    4. Look thou upon me, and have mercy on me, * according to the judgment of them that love thy name.

  4. Gressus meos dírige secúndum elóquium tuum: * et non dominétur mei omnis injustítia.

    5. Direct my steps according to thy word: * and let no iniquity have dominion over me.

  5. Rédime me a calúmniis hóminum: * ut custódiam mandáta tua.

    6. Redeem me from the calumnies of men: * that I may keep thy commandments.

  7. Exitus aquárum deduxérunt óculi mei: * quia non custodiérunt legem tuam.

    8. My eyes have sent forth springs of water: * because they have not kept thy law.

    9. (Sade) Thou art just, O Lord: * and thy judgment is right.

    10. Thou hast commanded justice thy testimonies: * and thy truth exceedingly.

  10. Tabéscere me fecit zelus meus: * quia oblíti sunt verba tua inimíci mei.

    11. My zeal hath made me pine away: * because my enemies forgot thy words.

  11. Ignítum elóquium tuum veheménter: * et servus tuus diléxit illud.

    12. Thy word is exceedingly refined: * and thy servant hath loved it.

  12. Adolescéntulus sum ego et contémptus: * justificatiónes tuas non sum oblítus.

    13. I am very young and despised; but * I forget not thy justifications.

  13. Justítia tua, justítia in ætérnum: * et lex tua véritas.

    14. Thy justice is justice for ever: * and thy law is the truth.

  14. Tribulátio, et angústia invenérunt me: * mandáta tua meditátio mea est.

    15. Trouble and anguish have found me: * thy commandments are my meditation.

  15. Æquitas testimónia tua in ætérnum: * intelléctum da mihi, et vivam.

    16. Thy testimonies are justice for ever: * give me understanding, and I shall live.

(Coph) I cried with my whole heart, hear me, O Lord: * I will seek thy justifications.

  1. Clamávi ad te, salvum me fac: * ut custódiam mandáta tua.

    2. I cried unto thee, save me: * that I may keep thy commandments.

  2. Prævéni in maturitáte, et clamávi: * quia in verba tua supersperávi.

    3. I prevented the dawning of the day, and cried: * because in thy words I very much hoped.

  3. Prævenérunt óculi mei ad te dilúculo: * ut meditárer elóquia tua.

    4. My eyes to thee have prevented the morning: * that I might meditate on thy words.

  4. Vocem meam audi secúndum misericórdiam tuam, Dómine: * et secúndum judícium tuum vivífica me.

    5. Hear thou my voice, O Lord, according to thy mercy: * and quicken me according to thy judgment.

  5. Appropinquavérunt persequéntes me iniquitáti: * a lege autem tua longe facti sunt.

    6. They that persecute me have drawn nigh to iniquity; * but they are gone far off from thy law.

  6. Prope es tu, Dómine: * et omnes viæ tuæ véritas.

    7. Thou art near, O Lord: * and all thy ways are truth.

  7. Inítio cognóvi de testimóniis tuis: * quia in ætérnum fundásti ea.

    8. I have known from the beginning concerning thy testimonies: * that thou hast founded them for ever.

  8. Vide humilitátem meam, et éripe me: * quia legem tuam non sum oblítus.

    9. (Res) See my humiliation and deliver me: * for I have not forgotten thy law.

  9. Júdica judícium meum, et rédime me: * propter elóquium tuum vivífica me.

    10. Judge my judgment and redeem me: * quicken thou me for thy word’s sake.

  10. Longe a peccatóribus salus: * quia justificatiónes tuas non exquisiérunt.

    11. Salvation is far from sinners; * because they have not sought thy justifications.

  11. Misericórdiæ tuæ multæ, Dómine: * secúndum judícium tuum vivífica me.

    12. Many, O Lord, are thy mercies: * quicken me according to thy judgment.

  12. Multi qui persequúntur me, et tríbulant me: * a testimóniis tuis non declinávi.

    13. Many are they that persecute me, and afflict me; * but I have not declined from thy testimonies.

  13. Vidi prævaricántes, et tabescébam: * quia elóquia tua non custodiérunt.

    14. I beheld the transgressors, and I pined away; * because they kept not thy word.

(Sin) Princes have persecuted me without cause: * and my heart hath been in awe of thy words.

  1. Lætábor ego super elóquia tua: * sicut qui invénit spólia multa.

    2. I will rejoice at thy words, * as one that hath found great spoil.

  2. Iniquitátem ódio hábui, et abominátus sum: * legem autem tuam diléxi.

    3. I have hated and abhorred iniquity; * but I have loved thy law.

  3. Sépties in die laudem dixi tibi, * super judícia justítiæ tuæ.

    4. Seven times a day I have given praise to thee, * for the judgments of thy justice.

    9. (Tau) Let my supplication, O Lord, come near in thy sight: * give me understanding according to thy word.

    10. Let my request come in before thee; * deliver thou me according to thy word.

  10. Eructábunt lábia mea hymnum, * cum docúeris me justificatiónes tuas.

    11. My lips shall utter a hymn, * when thou shalt teach me thy justifications.

  11. Pronuntiábit lingua mea elóquium tuum: * quia ómnia mandáta tua ǽquitas.

    12. My tongue shall pronounce thy word: * because all thy commandments are justice.

  12. Fiat manus tua ut salvet me: * quóniam mandáta tua elégi.

    13. Let thy hand be with me to save me; * for I have chosen thy precepts.

  13. Concupívi salutáre tuum, Dómine: * et lex tua meditátio mea est.

    14. I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord; * and thy law is my meditation.

  14. Vivet ánima mea, et laudábit te: * et judícia tua adjuvábunt me.

    15. My soul shall live and shall praise thee: * and thy judgments shall help me.

  15. Errávi, sicut ovis, quæ périit: * quære servum tuum, quia mandáta tua non sum oblítus.

    16. I have gone astray like a sheep that is lost: * seek thy servant, because I have not forgotten thy commandments.

Isa 11:1-2

Egrediétur virga de radíce Iesse, † et flos de radíce eius ascéndet. * Et requiéscet super eum Spíritus Dómini.

And there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse, and a flower shall rise up out of his root. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him.

Orémus.

Deus, qui de beátæ Maríæ Vírginis útero Verbum tuum, Angelo nuntiánte, carnem suscípere voluísti: † præsta supplícibus tuis; * ut, qui vere eam Genetrícem Dei crédimus, eius apud te intercessiónibus adiuvémur.
Per eúndem Dóminum nostrum Iesum Christum Fílium tuum, qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte Spíritus Sancti, Deus, * per ómnia sǽcula sæculórum.

O God, Who didst will that thy Word should, by the message of an Angel, take flesh in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary, grant unto us, we beseech thee, that all who do believe her to be in very deed the Mother of God, may be helped by her prayers in thy sight.
Through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, Our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
