Incipit

Hymnus

1. O God of truth, O Lord of might, Who orderest time and change aright, Who send’st the early morning ray, And light’st the glow of perfect day: 2. Extinguish thou each sinful fire, And banish every ill desire; And while thou keep’st the body whole, Shed forth thy peace upon the soul. 3. Almighty Father, hear our cry, Through Jesus Christ, our Lord most High, Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee, Doth live and reign eternally. Amen.

Psalmus 55

In God I have put my trust * I will not fear what flesh can do against me.

Have mercy on me, O God, for man hath trodden me under foot; * all the day long he hath afflicted me fighting against me.

  1. Conculcavérunt me inimíci mei tota die: * quóniam multi bellántes advérsum me.
  2. My enemies have trodden on me all the day long; * for they are many that make war against me.

  3. Ab altitúdine diéi tibo: * ego vero in te spebo.
  4. From the height of the day I shall fear: * but I will trust in thee.

  5. In Deo laudábo sermónes meos, in Deo spevi: * non timébo quid fáciat mihi caro.
  6. In God I will praise my words, in God I have put my trust: * I will not fear what flesh can do against me.

  7. Tota die verba mea exsecrabántur: * advérsum me omnes cogitatiónes eórum in malum.
  8. All the day long they detested my words: * all their thoughts were against me unto evil.

  9. Inhabitábunt, et abscóndent: * ipsi calcáneum meum obserbunt.
  10. They will dwell and hide themselves: * they will watch my heel.

  11. Sicut sustinuérunt ánimam meam, pro níhilo salvos cies illos: * in ira pópulos confrínges.
  12. As they have waited for my soul, for nothing shalt thou save them: * in thy anger thou shalt break the people in pieces.

  13. Deus, vitam meam annuntiávi tibi: * posuísti lácrimas meas in conspéctu tuo.
  14. O God, I have declared to thee my life: * thou hast set my tears in thy sight,

  15. Sicut et in promissióne tua: * tunc converténtur inimíci mei retrórsum:
  16. As also in thy promise. * Then shall my enemies be turned back.

  18. In what day soever I shall call upon thee, * behold I know thou art my God.

  19. In Deo laudábo verbum, in Dómino laubo sernem: * in Deo sperávi, non timébo quid fáciat mihi homo.
  20. In God will I praise the word, in the Lord will I praise his speech. * In God have I hoped, I will not fear what man can do to me.

  21. In me sunt, Deus, vota tua, * quæ reddam, laudatiónes tibi.
  22. In me, O God, are vows to thee, * which I will pay, praises to thee:

  24. Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, my feet from falling: * that I may please in the sight of God, in the light of the living.

  25. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  26. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  27. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  28. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 56

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: * for my soul trusteth in thee.

  1. Et in umbra alárum tuárum spebo: * donec tránseat iníquitas.
  2. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, * until iniquity pass away.

  4. I will cry to God the most High; * to God who hath done good to me.

  5. Misit de cælo, et libevit me: * dedit in oppróbrium conculcántes me.
  6. He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: * he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me.

  8. God hath sent his mercy and his truth, * and he hath delivered my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled.

  9. Fílii hóminum dentes eórum arma et sagíttæ: * et lingua eórum gládius atus.
  10. The sons of men, whose teeth are weapons and arrows, * and their tongue a sharp sword.

  11. Exaltáre super los, Deus: * et in omnem terram glória tua.
  12. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, * and thy glory above all the earth.

  13. Láqueum paravérunt dibus meis: * et incurvavérunt ánimam meam.
  14. They prepared a snare for my feet; * and they bowed down my soul.

  15. Fodérunt ante fáciem meam veam: * et incidérunt in eam.
  16. They dug a pit before my face, * and they are fallen into it.

  17. Parátum cor meum, Deus, patum cor meum: * cantábo, et psalmum dicam.
  18. My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: * I will sing, and rehearse a psalm.

  19. Exsúrge, glória mea, exsúrge psaltérium et thara: * exsúrgam diculo.
  20. Arise, O my glory, arise psaltery and harp: * I will arise early.

  21. Confitébor tibi in pulis, mine: * et psalmum dicam tibi in Géntibus:
  22. I will give praise to thee, O Lord, among the people: * I will sing a psalm to thee among the nations.

  24. For thy mercy is magnified even to the heavens: * and thy truth unto the clouds.

  25. Exaltáre super los, Deus: * et super omnem terram glória tua.
  26. Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: * and thy glory above all the earth.

  27. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  28. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  29. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  30. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 57

If in very deed you speak justice: * judge right things, ye sons of men.

  1. Etenim in corde iniquitátes opemini: * in terra injustítias manus vestræ concínnant.
  2. For in your heart you work iniquity: * your hands forge injustice in the earth.

  4. The wicked are alienated from the womb; they have gone astray from the womb: * they have spoken false things.

  5. Furor illis secúndum similitúdinem serpéntis: * sicut áspidis surdæ, et obturántis aures suas.
  6. Their madness is according to the likeness of a serpent: * like the deaf asp that stoppeth her ears:

  8. Which will not hear the voice of the charmers; * nor of the wizard that charmeth wisely.

  9. Deus cónteret dentes eórum in ore iprum: * molas leónum confrínget minus.
  10. God shall break in pieces their teeth in their mouth: * the Lord shall break the grinders of the lions.

  11. Ad níhilum devénient tamquam aqua decúrrens: * inténdit arcum suum donec infirméntur.
  12. They shall come to nothing, like water running down; * he hath bent his bow till they be weakened.

  14. Like wax that melteth they shall be taken away: * fire hath fallen on them, and they shall not see the sun.

  15. Priúsquam intellígerent spinæ vestræ rhamnum: * sicut vivéntes, sic in ira absórbet eos.
  16. Before your thorns could know the brier; he swalloweth them up, * as alive, in his wrath.

  17. Lætábitur justus cum víderit vindíctam: * manus suas lavábit in sánguine peccaris.
  18. The just shall rejoice when he shall see the revenge: * he shall wash his hands in the blood of the sinner.

  20. And man shall say: If indeed there be fruit to the just: * there is indeed a God that judgeth them on the earth.

  21. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  22. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  23. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  24. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

In God I have put my trust * I will not fear what flesh can do against me.

Capitulum Responsorium Versus

Sir 44:20; 44:22

There was not found the like to him in glory, who kept the law of the most High, and was in covenant with him. Therefore by an oath he gave him glory in his posterity, that he should increase in his people.
