1. O God of truth, O Lord of might, Who orderest time and change aright, Who send’st the early morning ray, And light’st the glow of perfect day: 2. Extinguish thou each sinful fire, And banish every ill desire; And while thou keep’st the body whole, Shed forth thy peace upon the soul. 3. Almighty Father, hear our cry, Through Jesus Christ, our Lord most High, Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee, Doth live and reign eternally. Amen.

Psalmus 55

Have mercy on me, O God, for man hath trodden me under foot; * all the day long he hath afflicted me fighting against me.

  1. Conculcavérunt me inimíci mei tota die: * quóniam multi bellántes advérsum me.

    2. My enemies have trodden on me all the day long; * for they are many that make war against me.

  2. Ab altitúdine diéi timébo: * ego vero in te sperábo.

    3. From the height of the day I shall fear: * but I will trust in thee.

  3. In Deo laudábo sermónes meos, in Deo sperávi: * non timébo quid fáciat mihi caro.

    4. In God I will praise my words, in God I have put my trust: * I will not fear what flesh can do against me.

  4. Tota die verba mea exsecrabántur: * advérsum me omnes cogitatiónes eórum in malum.

    5. All the day long they detested my words: * all their thoughts were against me unto evil.

  6. Sicut sustinuérunt ánimam meam, pro níhilo salvos fácies illos: * in ira pópulos confrínges.

    7. As they have waited for my soul, for nothing shalt thou save them: * in thy anger thou shalt break the people in pieces.

  7. Deus, vitam meam annuntiávi tibi: * posuísti lácrimas meas in conspéctu tuo.

    8. O God, I have declared to thee my life: * thou hast set my tears in thy sight,

  8. Sicut et in promissióne tua: * tunc converténtur inimíci mei retrórsum:

    9. As also in thy promise. * Then shall my enemies be turned back.

Psalmus 56

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: * for my soul trusteth in thee.

  1. Et in umbra alárum tuárum sperábo: * donec tránseat iníquitas.

    2. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, * until iniquity pass away.

  2. Clamábo ad Deum altíssimum: * Deum, qui benefécit mihi.

    3. I will cry to God the most High; * to God who hath done good to me.

  3. Misit de cælo, et liberávit me: * dedit in oppróbrium conculcántes me.

    4. He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: * he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me.

  7. Láqueum paravérunt pédibus meis: * et incurvavérunt ánimam meam.

    8. They prepared a snare for my feet; * and they bowed down my soul.

    9. They dug a pit before my face, * and they are fallen into it.

    10. My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: * I will sing, and rehearse a psalm.

Psalmus 57

If in very deed you speak justice: * judge right things, ye sons of men.

  1. Etenim in corde iniquitátes operámini: * in terra injustítias manus vestræ concínnant.

    2. For in your heart you work iniquity: * your hands forge injustice in the earth.

  2. Alienáti sunt peccatóres a vulva, erravérunt ab útero: * locúti sunt falsa.

    3. The wicked are alienated from the womb; they have gone astray from the womb: * they have spoken false things.

  3. Furor illis secúndum similitúdinem serpéntis: * sicut áspidis surdæ, et obturántis aures suas.

    4. Their madness is according to the likeness of a serpent: * like the deaf asp that stoppeth her ears:

  4. Quæ non exáudiet vocem incantántium: * et venéfici incantántis sapiénter.

    5. Which will not hear the voice of the charmers; * nor of the wizard that charmeth wisely.

  5. Deus cónteret dentes eórum in ore ipsórum: * molas leónum confrínget Dóminus.

    6. God shall break in pieces their teeth in their mouth: * the Lord shall break the grinders of the lions.

  6. Ad níhilum devénient tamquam aqua decúrrens: * inténdit arcum suum donec infirméntur.

    7. They shall come to nothing, like water running down; * he hath bent his bow till they be weakened.

  7. Sicut cera, quæ fluit, auferéntur: * supercécidit ignis, et non vidérunt solem.

    8. Like wax that melteth they shall be taken away: * fire hath fallen on them, and they shall not see the sun.

  8. Priúsquam intellígerent spinæ vestræ rhamnum: * sicut vivéntes, sic in ira absórbet eos.

    9. Before your thorns could know the brier; he swalloweth them up, * as alive, in his wrath.

  9. Lætábitur justus cum víderit vindíctam: * manus suas lavábit in sánguine peccatóris.

    10. The just shall rejoice when he shall see the revenge: * he shall wash his hands in the blood of the sinner.

  10. Et dicet homo: Si útique est fructus justo: * útique est Deus júdicans eos in terra.

    11. And man shall say: If indeed there be fruit to the just: * there is indeed a God that judgeth them on the earth.

Per Dóminum nostrum Iesum Christum, Fílium tuum: † qui tecum vivit et regnat in unitáte Spíritus Sancti, Deus, * per ómnia sǽcula sæculórum.


Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
