Psalmus 72 (0,9)

O Lord, thou hast judged * the cause of my soul, thou the Redeemer of my life.

How good is God to Israel, * to them that are of a right heart!

  1. Mei autem pene moti sunt pedes: * pene effúsi sunt gressus mei.

    2. But my feet were almost moved; * my steps had wellnigh slipped.

  2. Quia zelávi super iníquos, * pacem peccatórum videns.

    3. Because I had a zeal on occasion of the wicked, * seeing the prosperity of sinners.

  3. Quia non est respéctus morti eórum: * et firmaméntum in plaga eórum.

    4. For there is no regard to their death, * nor is there strength in their stripes.

They have set their mouth against heaven: * and their tongue hath passed through the earth.

  1. Et dixérunt: Quómodo scit Deus, * et si est sciéntia in excélso?

    2. Therefore will my people return here * and full days shall be found in them.

  2. Ecce ipsi peccatóres, et abundántes in sǽculo, * obtinuérunt divítias.

    3. And they said: How doth God know? * and is there knowledge in the most High?

  3. Et dixi: Ergo sine causa justificávi cor meum, * et lavi inter innocéntes manus meas.

    4. Behold these are sinners; and yet abounding in the world * they have obtained riches.

Until I go into the sanctuary of God, * and understand concerning their last ends.

  1. Quómodo facti sunt in desolatiónem, súbito defecérunt: * periérunt propter iniquitátem suam.

    2. But indeed for deceits thou hast put it to them: * when they were lifted up, thou hast cast them down.

  2. Velut sómnium surgéntium, Dómine, * in civitáte tua imáginem ipsórum ad níhilum rédiges.

    3. How are they brought to desolation? they have suddenly ceased to be: * they have perished by reason of their iniquity.

  3. Quia inflammátum est cor meum, et renes mei commutáti sunt: * et ego ad níhilum redáctus sum, et nescívi.

    4. As the dream of them that awake, O Lord; * so in thy city thou shalt bring their image to nothing.

  4. Ut juméntum factus sum apud te: * et ego semper tecum.

    5. For my heart hath been inflamed, and my reins have been changed: * and I am brought to nothing, and I knew not.

  5. Tenuísti manum déxteram meam: † et in voluntáte tua deduxísti me, * et cum glória suscepísti me.

    8. For what have I in heaven? * and besides thee what do I desire upon earth?

Ier 17:13

Dómine, omnes qui te derelínquunt, confundéntur: † recedéntes a te, in terra scribéntur: * quóniam dereliquérunt venam aquárum vivéntium Dóminum.

O Lord: all that forsake thee shall be confounded: they that depart from thee, shall be written in the earth: because they have forsaken the Lord, the vein of living waters.

Præsta, quǽsumus; omnípotens Deus: † ut dígnitas condiciónis humánæ per immoderántiam sauciáta, medicinális parsimóniæ stúdio reformétur.

Grant, we beseech thee, O Almighty God, that the honour of man's nature, which gluttony hath degraded, may be seasonably renewed by strictness in keeping of this healthful Fast.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
