Incipit

Hymnus

1. Come Holy Ghost who ever One Art with the Father and the Son, It is the hour, our souls possess With thy full flood of holiness. 2. Let flesh and heart and lips and mind Sound forth our witness to mankind; And love light up our mortal frame, Till others catch the living flame. 3. Almighty Father, hear our cry, Through Jesus Christ, our Lord most High, Who, with the Holy Ghost and thee, Doth live and reign eternally. Amen.

Psalmus 39 (2,9)

With expectation I have waited for the Lord, * and he was attentive to me.

  2. And he heard my prayers, * and brought me out of the pit of misery and the mire of dregs.

  3. Et státuit super petram pedes meos: * et diréxit gressus meos.
  4. And he set my feet upon a rock, * and directed my steps.

  5. Et immísit in os meum cánticum novum * carmen Deo nostro.
  6. And he put a new canticle into my mouth, * a song to our God.

  7. Vidébunt multi, et tibunt: * et sperábunt in mino.
  8. Many shall see, and shall fear: * and they shall hope in the Lord.

  10. Blessed is the man whose trust is in the name of the Lord; * and who hath not had regard to vanities, and lying follies.

  12. Thou hast multiplied thy wonderful works, O Lord my God: * and in thy thoughts there is no one like to thee.

  13. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  14. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  15. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  16. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 39 (6,14)

I have declared and I have spoken * they are multiplied above number.

  2. Sacrifice and oblation thou didst not desire; * but thou hast pierced ears for me.

  4. Burnt offering and sin offering thou didst not require: * then said I, Behold I come.

  6. In the head of the book it is written of me that I should do thy will: * O my God, I have desired it, and thy law in the midst of my heart.

  7. Annuntiávi justítiam tuam in ecclésia magna, * ecce lábia mea non prohibébo: Dómine, tu scisti.
  8. I have declared thy justice in a great church, * lo, I will not restrain my lips: O Lord, thou knowest it.

  10. I have not hid thy justice within my heart: * I have declared thy truth and thy salvation.

  11. Non abscóndi misericórdiam tuam et veritátem tuam * a concílio multo.
  12. I have not concealed thy mercy and thy truth * from a great council.

  13. Tu autem, Dómine, ne longe fácias miseratiónes tuas a me: * misericórdia tua et véritas tua semper suscerunt me.
  14. Withhold not thou, O Lord, thy tender mercies from me: * thy mercy and thy truth have always upheld me.

  15. Quóniam circumdedérunt me mala, quorum non est númerus: comprehendérunt me iniquitátes meæ, * et non pótui ut virem.
  16. For evils without number have surrounded me; * my iniquities have overtaken me, and I was not able to see.

  17. Multiplicátæ sunt super capíllos cápitis mei: * et cor meum derequit me.
  18. They are multiplied above the hairs of my head: * and my heart hath forsaken me.

  19. Compláceat tibi, Dómine, ut éruas me: * Dómine, ad adjuvándum me spice.
  20. Be pleased, O Lord to deliver me: * look down, O Lord, to help me.

  21. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  22. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  23. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  24. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Psalmus 39 (15,18)

Let them be confounded and ashamed together, that seek after my soul * to take it away.

  2. Let them be turned backward and be ashamed * that desire evils to me.

  3. Ferant conféstim confusiónem suam: * qui dicunt mihi: Euge, euge.
  4. Let them immediately bear their confusion, * that say to me: ’T is well, ’t is well.

  6. Let all that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: * and let such as love thy salvation say always: The Lord be magnified.

  8. But I am a beggar and poor: * the Lord is careful for me.

  10. Thou art my helper and my protector: * O my God, be not slack.

  11. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  12. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  13. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  14. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Capitulum Responsorium Versus

Sir 31:8-9

Blessed is the rich man that is found without blemish: and that hath not gone after gold, nor put his trust in money nor in treasures. Who is he, and we will praise him? for he hath done wonderful things in his life.

Oratio

Lord Jesus Christ, Who didst gift thine holy servant Paul with great love that he might preach the mystery of thy cross, and hast been pleased that through him a new family should grow up in thy Church, grant unto us at his prayers that upon earth we may so call thy sufferings to mind as worthily to gain the fruit thereof in heaven.
Who livest and reignest with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end.
