Psalmus 143 (1,8)

Blessed be the Lord * my support, and my deliverer.

Blessed be the Lord my God, who teacheth my hands to fight, * and my fingers to war.

2. Misericórdia mea, et refúgium meum: * suscéptor meus, et liberátor meus:

My mercy, and my refuge: * my support, and my deliverer:

3. Protéctor meus, et in ipso sperávi: * qui subdit pópulum meum sub me.

My protector, and I have hoped in him: * who subdueth my people under me.

4. Dómine, quid est homo quia innotuísti ei? * aut fílius hóminis, quia réputas eum?

Lord, what is man, that thou art made known to him? * or the son of man, that thou makest account of him?

5. Homo vanitáti símilis factus est: * dies ejus sicut umbra prætéreunt.

Man is like to vanity: * his days pass away like a shadow.

6. Dómine, inclína cælos tuos, et descénde: * tange montes, et fumigábunt.

Lord, bow down thy heavens and descend: * touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.

7. Fúlgura coruscatiónem, et dissipábis eos: * emítte sagíttas tuas, et conturbábis eos.

Send forth lightning, and thou shalt scatter them: * shoot out thy arrows, and thou shalt trouble them.

8. Emítte manum tuam de alto, † éripe me, et líbera me de aquis multis: * de manu filiórum alienórum.

Put forth thy hand from on high, take me out, and deliver me from many waters: * from the hand of strange children:

9. Quorum os locútum est vanitátem: * et déxtera eórum, déxtera iniquitátis.

Whose mouth hath spoken vanity: * and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity.

Happy is that people * whose God is the Lord.

To thee, O God, I will sing a new canticle: * on the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings I will sing praises to thee.

2. Qui das salútem régibus: * qui redemísti David, servum tuum, de gládio malígno: éripe me.

Who givest salvation to kings: * who hast redeemed thy servant David from the malicious sword: Deliver me,

3. Et érue me de manu filiórum alienórum, † quorum os locútum est vanitátem: * et déxtera eórum, déxtera iniquitátis.

And rescue me out of the hand of strange children; whose mouth hath spoken vanity: * and their right hand is the right hand of iniquity:

4. Quorum fílii, sicut novéllæ plantatiónes * in juventúte sua.

Whose sons are as new plants * in their youth:

5. Fíliæ eórum compósitæ: * circumornátæ ut similitúdo templi.

Their daughters decked out, * adorned round about after the similitude of a temple:

6. Promptuária eórum plena: * eructántia ex hoc in illud.

Their storehouses full, * flowing out of this into that.

7. Oves eórum fœtósæ, abundántes in egréssibus suis: * boves eórum crassæ.

Their sheep fruitful in young, abounding in their goings forth: * their oxen fat.

8. Non est ruína macériæ, neque tránsitus: * neque clamor in platéis eórum.

There is no breach of wall, nor passage, * nor crying out in their streets.

9. Beátum dixérunt pópulum, cui hæc sunt: * beátus pópulus, cujus Dóminus Deus ejus.

They have called the people happy, that hath these things: * but happy is that people whose God is the Lord.

For the Lord is great * and exceedingly to be praised: His greatness has no end.

I will extol thee, O God my king: * and I will bless thy name for ever; yea, for ever and ever.

Every day will I bless thee: * and I will praise thy name for ever; yea, for ever and ever.

3. Magnus Dóminus, et laudábilis nimis: * et magnitúdinis ejus non est finis.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised: * and of his greatness there is no end.

4. Generátio et generátio laudábit ópera tua: * et poténtiam tuam pronuntiábunt.

Generation and generation shall praise thy works: * and they shall declare thy power.

5. Magnificéntiam glóriæ sanctitátis tuæ loquéntur: * et mirabília tua narrábunt.

They shall speak of the magnificence of the glory of thy holiness: * and shall tell thy wondrous works.

6. Et virtútem terribílium tuórum dicent: * et magnitúdinem tuam narrábunt.

And they shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: * and shall declare thy greatness.

7. Memóriam abundántiæ suavitátis tuæ eructábunt: * et justítia tua exsultábunt.

They shall publish the memory of the abundance of thy sweetness: * and shall rejoice in thy justice.

The Lord is sweet to all: * and his tender mercies are over all his works.

3. Confiteántur tibi, Dómine, ómnia ópera tua: * et sancti tui benedícant tibi.

Let all thy works, O Lord, praise thee: * and let thy saints bless thee.

4. Glóriam regni tui dicent: * et poténtiam tuam loquéntur:

They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom: * and shall tell of thy power:

5. Ut notam fáciant fíliis hóminum poténtiam tuam: * et glóriam magnificéntiæ regni tui.

To make thy might known to the sons of men: * and the glory of the magnificence of thy kingdom.

6. Regnum tuum regnum ómnium sæculórum: * et dominátio tua in omni generatióne et generatiónem.

Thy kingdom is a kingdom of all ages: * and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

The Lord lifteth up all that fall: * and setteth up all that are cast down.

3. Oculi ómnium in te sperant, Dómine: * et tu das escam illórum in témpore opportúno.

The eyes of all hope in thee, O Lord: * and thou givest them meat in due season.

4. Aperis tu manum tuam: * et imples omne ánimal benedictióne.

Thou openest thy hand, * and fillest with blessing every living creature.

5. Justus Dóminus in ómnibus viis suis: * et sanctus in ómnibus opéribus suis.

The Lord is just in all his ways: * and holy in all his works.

6. Prope est Dóminus ómnibus invocántibus eum: * ómnibus invocántibus eum in veritáte.

The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him: * to all that call upon him in truth.

7. Voluntátem timéntium se fáciet: † et deprecatiónem eórum exáudiet: * et salvos fáciet eos.

He will do the will of them that fear him: * and he will hear their prayer, and save them.

8. Custódit Dóminus omnes diligéntes se: * et omnes peccatóres dispérdet.

The Lord keepeth all them that love him; * but all the wicked he will destroy.

9. Laudatiónem Dómini loquétur os meum: * et benedícat omnis caro nómini sancto ejus in sǽculum, et in sǽculum sǽculi.

My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: * and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever; yea, for ever and ever.

The Lord said unto Adam: * Of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, thou shalt not eat; in the hour that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die.

1. My soul + * doth magnify the Lord. 2. And my spirit hath rejoiced * in God my Saviour.

3. Quia respéxit humilitátem ancíllæ suæ: * ecce enim ex hoc beátam me dicent omnes generatiónes.

Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; * for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

4. Quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est: * et sanctum nomen ejus.

Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; * and holy is his name.

5. Et misericórdia ejus a progénie in progénies * timéntibus eum.

And his mercy is from generation unto generations, * to them that fear him.

6. Fecit poténtiam in bráchio suo: * dispérsit supérbos mente cordis sui.

He hath shewed might in his arm: * he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.

7. Depósuit poténtes de sede, * et exaltávit húmiles.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat, * and hath exalted the humble.

8. Esuriéntes implévit bonis: * et dívites dimísit inánes.

He hath filled the hungry with good things; * and the rich he hath sent empty away.

9. Suscépit Israël púerum suum, * recordátus misericórdiæ suæ.

He hath received Israel his servant, * being mindful of his mercy:

10. Sicut locútus est ad patres nostros, * Abraham et sémini ejus in sǽcula.

As he spoke to our fathers, * to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
