Psalmus 127

Blessed are all * they that fear the Lord. ‡

Quæ non repetitur in Psalmo

Blessed are all they that fear the Lord: * that walk in his ways.

  1. Labóres mánuum tuárum quia mandubis: * beátus es, et bene tibi erit.
  2. For thou shalt eat the labours of thy hands: * blessed art thou, and it shall be well with thee.

  3. Uxor tua sicut vitis abúndans: * in latéribus domus tuæ.
  4. Thy wife as a fruitful vine, * on the sides of thy house.

  5. Fílii tui sicut novéllæ olirum: * in circúitu men tuæ.
  6. Thy children as olive plants, * round about thy table.

  7. Ecce sic benedicétur homo, * qui timet minum.
  8. Behold, thus shall the man be blessed * that feareth the Lord.

  10. May the Lord bless thee out of Sion: * and mayst thou see the good things of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

  11. Et vídeas fílios filiórum tuórum: * pacem super Israël.
  12. And mayst thou see thy children’s children, * peace upon Israel.

  13. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  14. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  15. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  16. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Blessed are all * they that fear the Lord. ‡

Psalmus 128

Let them all be confounded * who hate Sion.

Often have they fought against me from my youth, * let Israel now say.

  1. Sæpe expugnavérunt me a juventúte mea: * étenim non potuérunt mihi.
  2. Often have they fought against me from my youth: * but they could not prevail over me.

  3. Supra dorsum meum fabricavérunt peccares: * prolongavérunt iniquitátem suam.
  4. The wicked have wrought upon my back: * they have lengthened their iniquity.

  6. The Lord who is just will cut the necks of sinners: * let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Sion.

  7. Fiant sicut fœnum tecrum: * quod priúsquam evellátur exáruit:
  8. Let them be as grass upon the tops of houses: * which withereth before it be plucked up:

  10. Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand: * nor he that gathereth sheaves his bosom.

  12. And they that passed by have not said: The blessing of the Lord be upon you: * we have blessed you in the name of the Lord.

Amen.

Let them all be confounded * who hate Sion.

Psalmus 129

Out of the depths * I have cried to thee, O Lord. ‡

Quæ non repetitur in Psalmo

Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord: * Lord, hear my voice.

  1. Fiant aures tuæ intendéntes: * in vocem deprecatiónis meæ.
  2. Let thy ears be attentive * to the voice of my supplication.

  3. Si iniquitátes observáveris, mine: * Dómine, quis sustibit?
  4. If thou, O Lord, wilt mark iniquities: * Lord, who shall stand it.

  6. For with thee there is merciful forgiveness: * and by reason of thy law, I have waited for thee, O Lord.

  7. Sustínuit ánima mea in verbo ejus: * sperávit ánima mea in mino.
  8. My soul hath relied on his word: * my soul hath hoped in the Lord.

  9. A custódia matutína usque ad noctem: * speret Israël in mino.
  10. From the morning watch even until night, * let Israel hope in the Lord.

  11. Quia apud Dóminum misericórdia: * et copiósa apud eum redémptio.
  12. Because with the Lord there is mercy: * and with him plentiful redemption.

  14. And he shall redeem Israel * from all his iniquities.

  15. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  16. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  17. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  18. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Out of the depths * I have cried to thee, O Lord. ‡

Psalmus 130

O Lord * my heart is not exalted. ‡

Quæ non repetitur in Psalmo

O Lord, my heart is not exalted: * nor are my eyes lofty.

  1. Neque ambuvi in magnis: * neque in mirabílibus super me.
  2. Neither have I walked in great matters, * nor in wonderful things above me.

  4. If I was not humbly minded, * but exalted my soul:

  6. As a child that is weaned is towards his mother, * so reward in my soul.

  8. Let Israel hope in the Lord, * from henceforth now and for ever.

  9. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  10. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  11. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  12. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

O Lord * my heart is not exalted. ‡

Psalmus 131

The Lord hath chosen * Sion for his dwelling.

Lord, remember David, * and all his meekness.

  1. Sicut juvit mino, * votum vovit Deo Jacob:
  2. How he swore to the Lord, * he vowed a vow to the God of Jacob:

  3. Si introíero in tabernáculum domus meæ, * si ascéndero in lectum strati mei:
  4. If I shall enter into the tabernacle of my house: * if I shall go up into the bed wherein I lie:

  6. If I shall give sleep to my eyes, * or slumber to my eyelids,

  7. Et réquiem tempóribus meis: donec invéniam locum mino, * tabernáculum Deo Jacob.
  8. Or rest to my temples: until I find out a place for the Lord, * a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

  9. Ecce audívimus eam in Ephrata: * invénimus eam in campis silvæ.
  10. Behold we have heard of it in Ephrata: * we have found it in the fields of the wood.

  11. Introíbimus in taberculum ejus: * adorábimus in loco, ubi stetérunt pedes ejus.
  12. We will go into his tabernacle: * we will adore in the place where his feet stood.

  13. Surge, Dómine, in quiem tuam, * tu et arca sanctificatiónis tuæ.
  14. Arise, O Lord, into thy resting place: * thou and the ark, which thou hast sanctified.

  15. Sacerdótes tui induántur justiam: * et sancti tui exsúltent.
  16. Let thy priests be clothed with justice: * and let thy saints rejoice.

  17. Propter David, servum tuum: * non avértas fáciem Christi tui.
  18. For thy servant David’s sake, * turn not away the face of thy anointed.

  20. The Lord hath sworn truth to David, and he will not make it void: * of the fruit of thy womb I will set upon thy throne.

  22. If thy children will keep my covenant, * and these my testimonies which I shall teach them:

  23. Et fílii eórum usque in culum: * sedébunt super sedem tuam.
  24. Their children also for evermore * shall sit upon thy throne.

  25. Quóniam elégit minus Sion: * elégit eam in habitatiónem sibi.
  26. For the Lord hath chosen Sion: * he hath chosen it for his dwelling.

  27. Hæc réquies mea in culum culi: * hic habitábo, quóniam elégi eam.
  28. This is my rest for ever and ever: * here will I dwell, for I have chosen it.

  29. Víduam ejus benedícens benecam: * páuperes ejus saturábo nibus.
  30. Blessing I will bless her widow: * I will satisfy her poor with bread.

  31. Sacerdótes ejus índuam saluri: * et sancti ejus exsultatióne exsulbunt.
  32. I will clothe her priests with salvation: * and her saints shall rejoice with exceeding great joy.

  33. Illuc prodúcam cornu David: * parávi lucérnam Christo meo.
  34. There will I bring forth a horn to David: * I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.

  35. Inimícos ejus índuam confusióne: * super ipsum autem efflorébit sanctificátio mea.
  36. His enemies I will clothe with confusion: * but upon him shall my sanctification flourish.

  37. Glória Patri, et lio, * et Spirítui Sancto.
  38. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, * and to the Holy Ghost.

  39. Sicut erat in princípio, et nunc, et semper, * et in sǽcula sæculórum. Amen.
  40. As it was in the beginning, is now, * and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

The Lord hath chosen * Sion for his dwelling.

Capitulum Responsorium Versus

Between the porch and the altar the priests the Lord's ministers shall weep, and shall say: Spare, O Lord, spare thy people: and give not thy inheritance to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them.

Hymnus

1. O kind Creator, bow thine ear To mark the cry, to know the tear Before thy throne of mercy spent In this thy holy fast of Lent. 2. Our hearts are open, Lord, to thee: Thou knowest our infirmity; Pour out on all who seek thy face Abundance of thy pardoning grace. 3. Our sins are many, this we know; Spare us, good Lord, thy mercy show; And for the honour of thy name Our fainting souls to life reclaim. 4. Give us the self-control that springs From discipline of outward things, That fasting inward secretly The soul may purely dwell with thee. 5. We pray thee, Holy Trinity, One God, unchanging Unity, That we from this our abstinence May reap the fruits of penitence. Amen.

Pater

« Pater Noster » dicitur totum secreto.
Pater noster, qui es in cælis, sanctificétur nomen tuum: advéniat regnum tuum: fiat volúntas tua, sicut in cælo et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidiánum da nobis hódie: et dimítte nobis débita nostra, sicut et nos dimíttimus debitóribus nostris: et ne nos indúcas in tentatiónem: sed líbera nos a malo. Amen.

Oratio

God, the Renewer and Lover of innocency, turn the hearts of all thy servants to thyself, that so they, being enkindled with the fire of thy Spirit, may be found ever rooted in faith, and fruitful in works.
Through Jesus Christ, thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end.
